Indeed, that's what I think too. Right now, I can't say I've particularly followed the more recent developments in the genre, and I could be spouting some nonsense since it seems there's a lot of up-to-date people here (dopoesmoker kosmo giorgio, etc.) who know the genre very well, but I think that for the serious stuff like Burial and things open to experimentation and techno influences, including this album which is quite impressive, most of the productions (those more club-oriented packed with LFOs, syncopated bass, tons of reverb, and pauses, or the productions of Benga and company, or especially Distance) [which I see is quite hyped even though he makes formulaic records] are a continuous copy-paste and recycling. Nothing new, being in my humble opinion an exact copy of the grime that was around 10 years ago (just slower and without raps over it). Don't classic albums like these remind you of some recent/current dubstep? -> |||| .... same synths, same steppy rhythms. It’s no coincidence that dubstep comes from all those British sounds like UK garage, 2-step, grime from the early 2000s. In short, I conclude by saying that I do like something like this too (especially the more ignorant stuff like the Dub Police catalog, for example this one which is an absolute banger! YouTube video non trovatoFJoG8jdNSJ0) but I've never understood why this is talked about as the millennium's novelty, as the serious and intelligent electronic music of the situation, as the "response" to the cheesy stuff for kids, considering it's yet another derivative and, in my personal opinion, a genre destined to last not much longer that doesn’t deserve all this attention.

-7- no worries, the album itself is very well presented. I found the "technical" references (complex rhythms, etc.) a bit out of place, that's all ;)
Younger Brother The Last Days Of Gravity

-1- In fact, I was tempted to give a 4, also because of the two "sleepwalker" tracks that have never fully convinced me and seem to be there just to fill space. Let's say the fair rating (as far as my opinion goes, of course) would have been a 4.5, but since half scores don't exist, appreciating records that are a bit out of the ordinary, I opted for a 5. However, you’re not entirely wrong ;) Regarding the subsequent period, they continued to release singles individually (Simon released the new Shpongle last year)... I think a new YB will come considering the good response received from The Last Days.

What a great record I consumed! Quite original and not the usual novelty (?) dubstep that sounds the same as the grime from 10 years ago, which has been gaining so much popularity lately. I don't agree with several things in the review; I don't hear much minimalism, it's closer to deep/techno that’s darker and bass-heavy. It doesn't seem rhythmically complex to me, and the references to the future are absent as well; it was an honest record but ultimately forgettable. Similar and overlooked releases have been produced for years. Ah: phenomenal Techno Dread.
High Contrast Tough Guys Don't Dance
Voto:
High Contrast deserves it, with a melodic style that is very "smooth", pleasant to listen to. I remember the album well, decent but not essential, come on. As for elegance, you can definitely hear it in many releases; just check out some liquid releases (especially stuff from Hospital, which is the same label that hosts High Contrast), particularly Nu:Tone and LTJ Bukem. In the review, I would have provided a bit more information about the album.

Speaking of White, he is currently involved in a new indie-garage-hipster-noir project called "the black belles." Nothing special, but it doesn't seem too bad to me.

I love the Garbage, but I really don't see the parallel with the Dead Weather.. I would say it "wobbles" :D

I found the debut to be mediocre, a lot of image and few contents. I’m turning some previews of this new
Depeche Mode Songs Of Faith And Devotion
Voto:
Everything but the Depeche Mode experiments, really no. I still think that for all their worth and being a good band – apart from Violator, which I adore – they remain fundamentally overrated.

I was really into it :) in fact, I would say I find it more interesting and original now than in the early productions! Great review.
