@ kosmo: for now I’ve only listened to the samples on Amazon, and it’s true they’re nothing particularly special.. but in downt I’m not looking for experimentation, I just need a nice voice, atmosphere, good beat, and here there’s everything (like apple, as one and fight, which I liked the most) :D link in download

@geb: Well, I don't know, but I repeat, I don't see any technical terms in this review. If I had to use technical terms, I'd write something like: "Unhuman opens with a hallkick cut at 900 Hz, while in the background reverse cymbals and time-stretched vocals hover; then the beat comes in (a distorted kick in the mid-high frequencies + a reverberated snare with the tail cut to give it a 'sharp hit' effect) alongside an 'oh!' shot every 3 bars following the snare to create a very original break. Subsequently, a gloomy synthesized didgeridoo-drone enters (a processed sawtooth) that contributes to the particular 'oppressive' atmosphere characterizing this track that...." Clear? What I write are normal terms, not technical ones. __ """Oh, I could be wrong, but that's the feeling.""" -> you're right on the first part!: you're mistaken ;) I really can't understand why a couple of charts (the others are all short) with 30 positions should somehow make me look like an expert"? :D I’ve seen charts with 100 or detailed ones on profiles with so many best records for each year, and I think those who made them are simply enthusiasts (like me), not someone who wants to appear as an expert by writing their 30 favorites in genres where you can mention even 300. I don’t consider myself an expert, I consider myself musically open-minded, that’s for sure (as shown by the mentioned charts), and for that reason, from this point of view, I'm superior to those closed off to one genre. Thankfully, on deb, there are many open-minded people; I’ll name the first ones that come to mind: giovannia, kosmo, zion, cptg) but also just as many closed ones like splinter (70 reviews only on prog) or atanas (only metal). ____ """The reviewed album might be well-known to IDM experts like you, but it remains a niche within a niche""" --> I REPEAT, it’s not a niche; you seem unwilling to understand; I'll give you a very simplistic but effective example with Last FM plays (SUPERBIG-big-known name among genre enthusiasts - niche): Beatles 250,915,464 plays _ Chemical Brothers 29,518,259 plays __ Haujobb (architect) 970,343 plays (53,400 listeners) _ Seafar (very good but niche within the niche (quote) 2,995 plays. OK? ___ """Dispensing advice left and right""" -> definitely not, if I did (like in the 2010 chart or some comments like "if you like X, try Y, it's similar to the reviewed one), it's only because I know that those who commented appreciate certain genres, on the other hand, if they do it with me by recommending something, I take it into consideration (e.g., here post 1 AND 5 __ Anoranza Del Hastio - La Otra Cara De Un Jardin - Recensione di Yosif _ I don’t think they do it for any boast: D it’s sharing, you’re almost there, not showing off (I don't know any debaser users personally, so why should I care?) ____ Never written off rated things """to show how expert you are (quote)""; if I "write off" (for me it means downscale, which is different) swim, it’s just because it’s mediocre, period. Coincidentally, it’s also noted by kosmo, who knows about these things; you, I might be wrong, could be the classic one who knows a lot about prog rock, etc., but only knows the various Chemical Brothers-Massive Attack-Aphex Twin in electronica and thinks that’s where it ends. (It’s normal, it’s impossible to know all genres well; “preferred” genres inevitably take priority.) When, on the contrary, it’s the richest genre in the world with hundreds and hundreds of sub-genres for various purposes (to dance, to trip-in-headphones, to relax, to experiment, etc.). You said it yourself: ""I've been listening to it regularly for a year"" right? So if you like it, okay, no problem (I’m not disputing tastes), but fundamentally it remains mediocre, period. I also like some folks like Nathalie Imbruglia, Nightwish, Ska-P,... but I don’t deny they’re mediocre!! :D well, this post is a bit of a mess (I wrote it in a rush), but I think this tim

most mainstream albums, completely ignoring more deserving releases) [much better reviewers on deb like Zion, I swear]. These "ignored" albums can be discovered mainly through a simple, effective, and ancient "method" (anyone can do it, so I’m not claiming to be an expert here when I point out this album with only a meager source found by googling in Italian): this "method" is neither the latest blow-up nor pseudoprofessional sites like Ondarock. Instead, here it is: I like genre X, and from that genre, I particularly appreciate the releases on label Y (label = record company, so I’m not being technical, okay?). Well, I browse the catalog of label Y and discover releases C and D, perhaps names less known than B (the flagship artist of the same label - and the only one from the label reviewed on Ondarock -) clear? Other ways include word of mouth, compilations, or the unknown guy discovered live in the supporting lineup of a big act) but definitely not magazines and websites. To conclude, this is a very valid album, and if there’s a chance to make it appreciated by someone who doesn’t know it, why not? For example, Kosmogabry commented on one of my reviews pointing out Morphologue, whom I didn’t know, and I liked them a lot. You play the conspiracy theorist :P instead, I would prefer a comment like "Look, I don’t know them, but there’s a metal band with a similar concept, mixing chaotic drums and growls with relaxing violins, a nice contrast, maybe you’ll be interested, they’re called The Geb." In fact, on deb, they talk about music or at most vote on looks and joke about the reviews of Death Magnetic, therefore I hope this is the last time I find myself facing these “but… you know what…” ;)

Hi geb, I'm replying to your comments. I’ll be long-winded, but I can’t help it since I need to explain things in detail. It only took the use of a couple of terms and the dismissal of four albums that are highly regarded in the radical chic scene of the web (think average user of ondarock) for me to come off as the pretentious one. _____________ 1) For you, who - judging by the charts - seem mainly interested in more "band" and less technological music, these might sound like technical terms, but they are rather common in these genres! For example, the Roland 808 or the Moog, which perhaps a fan of Clapton or Metallica might not know, have represented for electronic music what Ibanez, Fender, etc. could represent for him, so these are normal terms just like a plectrum or fingerpicking can be in prog, things I wouldn’t know how to discuss at all; in fact, I don't exclude that they might not even relate to prog. Terms like breaks, glitch, or even "spaccaculo" and "roba grossa" don’t seem technical to me at all :) I've said several times (to those who pointed out that my reviews lack "emotional involvement") that I prefer to review by focusing on the content of the album. The style I appreciate is that of Scaruffi, namely, illustrating the album in a "cold" manner without any theatricality, but in a way that provides an overview to someone who might not be familiar with the album being reviewed. Of course, everyone has their own opinion, but personally, I like this style (and to be honest, I'm not even good enough at writing to attempt "theatrical" reviews)! I don't know that magazine; I've never read any music magazine. (2 On "Further," you might argue that it's good in its own way (even though it’s not up to Chemical standards), but Swim, allow me to say… it's really mediocre. If you know little else in the genre (as I believe might be the case, but I could be mistaken), it’s normal for you to like it and think it’s a masterpiece. I've seen that album pushed mostly by pseudo-alternative people, indie types, and so on [like ondarockers and those who vote on RYM]. It's clear that compared to Gigi D'Alessio, it's a solid 10, but compared to similar works, it’s worth very little, if anything at all. I love several jazz artists, but I'm not an expert in the genre (like the excellent "Contemplazione" on Debaser), so if I listen to a Coltrane album – even though I believe he is widely considered the best saxophonist – [which I think too, but not letting public opinion influence me, I can’t be certain since I only know a few other saxophonists], I say that I like it but I might be unaware of better names and wouldn't argue with "Contemplazione" if he says that Coltrane is mediocre and Charlie Parker is better. You like Swim? Great, but it remains mediocre, and I, who (not as a boast, mind you) know a lot about electronic music (I’m not a super-expert, but I know what I’m talking about), understand why I think Swim is mediocre or not this masterpiece it tries to be. I can even write down the reasons, but then you’ll tell me I’m being technical or citing unknown names (to you) :D __________ 3) Regarding the last part, you simply misunderstand because Architect (who is just one person, I doubt he read the review since I mention the name several times) was already half of Haujobb (a well-known project, even though it’s obviously not top-tier but neither niche) [e.g., relationship CHEMICAL BROTHERS / Haujobb = BURZUM / Behemoth], so it’s not the first one to pass by. A fan of IDM and similar genres (which is just a drop in the ocean of electronic genres) like Zion (Debaser user), I’m sure knows both the Chemical Brothers and Haujobb, while someone who primarily listens to prog (e.g., Splinter, Debaser user) will know the Chemical Brothers but not Haujobb, simple as that. OF COURSE, 100% unknown to those who get music information from mediocre sites like Ondarock or SentireAscoltare (which concerning electronics are null, copying the

Speaking of "zingarate"... none of you are interested in the new gipsy electro and gipsy punk trends like Balkan Beat Box, Mahala Rai Banda, Amsterdam Klezmer Band, Romashka, Zydepunks, Slavic Soul Party, or less contaminated stuff like Fanfare Savale? For example, Gogol Bordello falls into that category and they are now quite well-known, but among them, imho, they are the most mediocre... okay, it’s all really ignorant to the core, etc.. but it deserves to be explored! :D @ kosmo: good 8) also include Serbian Boban Markovic!
