Beautiful, especially the setting. One thing though: when you say "a novel that demands to be savored slowly, without haste" mmmmhh... in my opinion, these (generally 'these modern thrillers') are books that should be read without significant interruptions; otherwise, they lose a lot; if you read a book like this over 4 weeks, the tension, the historical context description goes out the window, and you even forget the names of the characters.
