As a matter of record, today I listened to it again - I omitted the important detail that I only listened to it about ten times in the days after its release - and it bored the hell out of me. But I think it’s not just the album, it’s the genre that really got on my nerves.

I preferred them back when they were doing twisted math-post-rock indebted to Battles, especially because of the live shows at outrageous volumes (those who went to one of their concerts in 2009 told me they had louder volumes than Sunn O)))!). But this is still a blast.

One of my all-time favorite albums. In the Hurt Reznor-Hurt Cash debate, I prefer the NIN version. I mean, after an entire record of pain and nihilism conveyed through hits, both musical and otherwise, you get a 23-second intro that leads into a plinky guitar? With a voice that's a whisper of resignation that then builds in intensity during the chorus, turning into a scream of bitterness. And the outro feels like a black hole. But then, a lyrics like that sung by Trent Reznor, compared to Johnny Cash, is a whole different story.

Maybe it's that I don't give a damn about the so-called "history of music" and go straight for the music; the Guns piss me off. I don't even bother trying to reassess them, I just can't do it; after a minute, I'm rolling my balls on the floor.
