Here it is: "Only in 1980 did we learn from the Sunday Times how Stalin's son, Yakov, died. Captured by the Germans during World War II, he was interned in a prisoner of war camp along with a group of English officers. They shared the latrines. Stalin's son always left them dirty. The English didn’t like to see their latrines smeared with mess, even if it was the mess of the son of the most powerful man on earth. They reproached him for it. He was offended. They reproached him again multiple times and forced him to clean them. He got angry, started a fight, and it came to blows. In the end, he asked to be heard by the camp commander. He wanted him to arbitrate. But the arrogant German refused to talk about shit. Stalin's son could not bear the humiliation. Screaming terrible Russian curses at the sky, he threw himself against the barbed wire electrified fence that surrounded the prison camp. He fell upon it. His body, which would never again dirty the latrines of the English, remained hanging there. (...) Stalin's son gave his life over shit. But dying for shit does not mean dying without meaning. The Germans who sacrificed their lives to expand the Reich further east, the Russians who died so that the power of their country reached further west, they indeed died for something stupid, and their death lacks meaning and general validity. The death of Stalin's son, however, was, in the general stupidity of war, the only metaphysical death."

I don't know Serrano; I had never heard of him before. However, reading the review reminded me of a passage from a book by Kundera, in which he recounts the death of Stalin's son. Stalin's son threw himself onto the high-voltage wires of the detention camp where he was imprisoned because he refused to clean the toilets as ordered. The writer interprets this as the refusal of the Son of God (the Soviet God) to deal with shit. This is because God and shit are two antithetical concepts, and bringing them close together sends humans into a vertigo (and this happens even if the human in question is a non-believer). I don't know if the discussion about provocation, bigotry, or whether one is a believer or not is so important to understand the work. If it were just a provocation, Serrano would be an idiot, and you are right to say that the photo is disgusting; however, I think the discussion is a bit deeper.

Five to you and the two monsters on the cover. Big monkey, Baden Powell has a touch of class, one of my favorite guitarists. Ah, between seleçao and azzurri, what did you choose in the end? :)
