I hate Collodi's book with all my being, but this show is extraordinary because it has everything else that is extraordinary. A masterpiece of our cinema that should be re-proposed for the quality of elements it presents. Concerning TV, I believe that RAI commits a grave and shameful error for our country: abandoning public service. Personally, I am not scandalized by the fact that there may be many operators in the field proposing their way of thinking about the television medium, but I believe that RAI has the obligation to offer public service and to maintain a certain style, even when presenting variety shows. It has made the mistake (and continues to do so, let’s be clear) of believing that they could gain approval by chasing the patterns of commercial television, effectively renouncing its real cultural prerogative; in this way, it has lost ground and time. It has given up on countless investments (especially technological ones) just to buy terribly expensive and disgusting formats from abroad (implicitly favoring competition). It has been persisting in this wrong strategy for at least 15 years; unfortunately, as long as politics decides the fate of Viale Mazzini, we won’t get far.

I would never have thought that a review would come out about this one, known through a DJ friend, and I don't miss the time when I was unaware of its existence. I didn't like it at all.

@Seppe, allow me to say this gladly: DeBaser may be poorly managed (perfection isn't of this planet; I couldn't tell you if it exists in a place with a certain "god") but don't think that other places are run any better. The issue is different: here, there are more margins of freedom. It's up to each person's sensitivity to choose how to make use of it; everyone uses it in a way they deem appropriate (and, in my opinion, some use it poorly). Do some of the participants have expertise? Look, and I’m surprised I have to say this to someone who is 13 (!) years older than me, there are plenty of people with expertise in the world, you can find braggarts like that everywhere. If you don’t like them, ignore them; it doesn’t seem like a difficult effort to me. With all due respect.

@Dreamwarrior, we will welcome him to DeBaser. More than that is not possible. Honestly, I don't doubt the honesty of the reviewer and the review (which I haven't read and therefore won't vote on), but there's no need to make such a fuss. Take it with philosophy; I wish I had received as many comments on my first review (which was about an album by a Spanish Prog band). He'll get used to it and will review serious music too (I hope).

Hold on a second. @Dreamwarrior, just give me a second, but look, we're talking about three bands that are getting roasted for valid reasons. Dream Theater are a useless band that can’t musically express anything whatsoever. Iron Maiden have been unable to renew themselves for years and offer something that could be deemed decent, so they remain a joke, with the added burden of being led by one of the most arrogant beings in the universe (Bruce Dickinson); Metallica managed to become the most washed-up band, musically speaking, in history. It’s like: up to a certain point, it’s therapeutic perseverance, but after that, you’re just asking for it. And if you want to say that others are idiots for refusing to talk about the album and the review, that’s fine by me, but honestly, don’t come to me claiming they’re just wrong because then you really become moralists. Thanks a lot.

You have an incredible evocative and emotional ability; in this regard, perhaps you have no rivals. However, I also support the criticism against you. The risk that you sometimes lose the thread is significant; it’s a shame.

@Madcat, I'm glad you find yourself in my words. It's worth watching continuously because it's fantastic how it slaps reality in the face of the people, demonstrating a great dignity (and we must also praise the masterful performance of Flavio Bucci, particularly in the role of Don Bastiano). It shows us that the "common people" mean nothing, despite believing they are someone important, and that the "powers" held by priests and executioners have no real value; they are just a mirage of importance. I would like to make a critique of the review: you should have contextualized that famous line: "Io so' io e voi nun siete un cazzo!". Stated like that, it's just a funny phrase but reflects a malaise in Italian society. Watch it: You can link a scene like this to another one from the film "I Due Vigili," a movie by Franco and Ciccio. It happens that one of them gives a ticket to the mayor for illegal parking, who realizes that the officer is sanctioning him while he is showing a British counterpart around the city. The Italian mayor is furious and goes there to assert his "rank," thinking he can get the fine lifted simply because he "counts," when the English colleague compliments the officer for doing his job without favoritism and proposes a promotion. The Italian mayor accepts but not because he agrees on the merits, but only to avoid a monumental embarrassment.
