Freddie Hubbard Straight Life

Brilliant review, presented with the style we've come to expect from you! What can I say: what remains of my hardcore kid adolescence has now layered with the stimuli I've absorbed since, and I find myself transitioning from Black Flag to this album with the slightest effort... I believe I have a more open mindset at 30 than I did at 16... but in the end, what does that have to do with Hubbard? I don't know, I just felt like writing it!

A review worthy of a gentleman's record!
Ornette Coleman Free Jazz: A Collective Improvvisation

Rightly essential review: describing a work like this in words seems to me a difficult task. I agree with Chambers: while recognizing a fundamental contribution of "free jazz" in pushing the genre's boundaries, I would say that, on a pioneering level, there were also people like Mingus, Taylor, and Dolphy himself, who were doing this work with similar effectiveness. This does not detract from the album or the review.

Well, given that I was looking for a graduation gift, a CD to inspire a keyboardist who has recently "discovered" jazz, I would say I award a 5 for the style of the recommendation. I've never heard the album... but I want to give a 4 for the cover (in the face of the dress and the monk!).

Immense group, great album, beautiful review. Having run out of superlatives, I’m sending you a link to the internet archive section where you can stream and download concerts of the band with a creative commons license (hence: all legal):
Internet Archive Search: (collection:etree AND creator:"Fugazi") AND format:mp3

The Roots Rising Down

In fact, judging by the number of reviews available, hip-hop around here isn’t particularly popular. However, I'm really glad that the quality of what can be found makes up for the lack of quantity: a solid 5 for the review and for promoting good music... the roots are great, but I must admit I haven't heard this latest one; it's on my to-do list!

@Telespalla: indeed, in my attempt to stay "faithful" to "my" style "a la minutemen" (as few frills as possible to keep my reviews around 1500-1800 characters), I left out quite a bit of information, especially on the purely musical aspect. I'm partially making up for it by sending you this YouTube link with live scenes from 2008 (Mekuria is 80 years old!):

From there you can also find more videos. Enjoy!
