Cathedral The Carnival Bizarre
Voto:
I haven't listened to all the Cathedral albums, but I admit I haven't been able to really enjoy The Carnival Bizarre. In my personal opinion, their creative and artistic peak was reached with The Ethereal Mirror... and maybe also in Statik Majik. I attended one of their concerts during the TCB tour, and even live, these songs didn't convince me much. Great performance, though.
Brutal Truth Need To Control
Voto:
Rusty, dragged, innovative, dazzling. All adjectives that fit perfectly! This is a very interesting album, and it would be quite limiting to try to label the music of this work as "industrial grind" or anything else. I haven't listened to either the album prior to this one or the subsequent "Sound of the Animal Kingdom," but there's so much to explore in numerous listens already in this "Need to Control"!
Disincarnate Dreams Of The Carrion Kind
Voto:
Excellent review, and great album! I bought it when it came out, and I completely agree with the reviewer: a work of old school death metal crafted and played with care, with diligence and without overdoing it or contaminating itself. Truly a remarkable achievement, given the goal set by Murphy and company.
Voivod The Outer Limits
Voto:
Beautiful, exciting, original, and daring just the right amount, this The Outer Limits. I’ll just add one thing: in my personal opinion, "Jack Luminous" is a perfect piece... perfect in its intricate and dreamy length. A delicious 5, as far as I'm concerned.

Transcendent music, music for the soul. A precious shard to be cherished, to be listened to and lived intimately...
At The Gates Slaughter of the Soul
Voto:
What can I say... I consider this album to be the most predictable and least impactful of At the Gates. I listen to them very rarely nowadays, but among their records, I still prefer the second LP... which also has a wonderful cover and booklet. It's known that sometimes aesthetics help to keep an album lodged in memory.

Compelling, not derivative at all, and damn well executed, this album. Back in the day, I was truly captivated by the leaden and lunar sound fog that these Germans managed to create in Odium. A little gem to be discovered for anyone who might have missed it in the nineties.
Thought Industry Mods Carve The Pig: Assassins, Toads And God's Flesh
Voto:
This album was an obsession of mine in '93. I listened to it endlessly, and it stayed with me; even after 15 years, I can still remember it perfectly. It is, among other things, better crafted and better produced than the debut, that "Songs for Insects," which already hinted at the genius of the four (The Chalice Vermillion above all); too bad that the subsequent albums proved, in my opinion, to be absolutely inadequate.

Excellent work. Cutting-edge, sophisticated, varied, intense both in sounds and atmosphere. One of my all-time favorite albums.

Personally, I found it a bit too rocky and dry, although it has character. I've never had a particular fondness for Nirvana, but I certainly appreciated In Utero much more.
