@Psycroptic: yeah yeah yeah!! see also Stephen King, Clive Barker, John Carpenter... and you are absolutely right, I like everything, really everything about Lovecraft, even the poetry, the essays, he’s a great, in short... a legend... sometimes it really frustrates/makes me think that Lovecraft died broke with his absolutely shocking and original ideas, while King made billions recycling those ideas... bah...

In fact, I consider Huxley's analysis to be very clear-sighted, not at all "science-fictional": it is evident that many of his "prophecies" are slowly coming true, or could still come true: what is more realistic than a dictatorship not necessarily centered around a charismatic figure (like Orwell's Big Brother), but realized through control of the masses by granting them apparent freedom? Totalitarianism as control of the media, even without the "contradictory" methods of Orwell's "doublethink"... instilling from a very young age ideas and concepts not so much political as about life in general to people... the rest follows naturally, effectively limiting (if not even excluding) any danger of revolt, a possibility that always remains latent in the repressive political system of 1984...

miii, dènghiuu!! :D @Supersoul: well, I obviously belong to the category of those who are crazy about Lovecraft (if it wasn't clear!:D), "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" is beautiful, but it has never captivated me like this one.. exactly for the same reasons you've listed! @Geenoo: I read it for the first time just over five years ago, and I'm still obsessed.. @OO°Terry°OO: yes, I did it on purpose! :D @Hetzer: but... YOU TOO??!! ...no, because.. me too!! @Jenkins: (by the way, your nickname is the name of a secondary Lovecraftian character (namely Brown Jenkins), a grotesque creature vaguely resembling a large rat with very human features, servant of the witch Keziah Mason in the story "Dreams In The Witch House"!!) well, I would personally recommend you to follow a chronological order, to also track the evolution of the incredible world birthed by the mind of the solitary one from Providence: like, broadly selecting from his wonderful output.. "Nyarlathotep," "The Nameless City," "The Outsider," "The Hound," "Horror at Red Hook," "The Call of Cthulhu," "The Dream-Quest of Unknown Kadath" (the title doesn’t translate well into Italian), "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward," "The Colour Out of Space," "The Dunwich Horror," "He Who Whispered in the Dark," "At the Mountains of Madness," "The Shadow Over Innsmouth," "The Dreams in the Witch House," "The Shadow Out of Time," "The Dweller in the Dark".... But ideally, it would be great if you can find some collection of all the tales... I know that Mondadori and Newton (I think) have published some, while Fanucci has curated a collection of stories from the Cthulhu cycle.. well, you figure it out...
