Copy-pasting on my knees on the chickpeas: "I Galileo, son of the late Vincenzo Galileo of Florence, aged 70 years, personally constituted in judgment, and kneeling before you Eminent and Reverend Cardinals, in the whole Christian Republic against the heretical depravity of the General Inquisitors; having before my eyes the sacred Gospels, which I touch with my own hands, I swear that I have always believed, I believe now, and with the help of God I will believe in the future, all that the Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church holds, preaches, and teaches. But since from this Holy Office, because I have, after having been legally warned by the same, been instructed that I must entirely abandon the false opinion that the sun is the center of the world and that it does not move and that the earth is not the center of the world and that it moves, and that I could not hold, defend, or teach in any way, neither verbally nor in writing, this said false doctrine, and after being notified that said doctrine is contrary to Sacred Scripture, I wrote and printed a book in which I discuss the same already condemned doctrine and provide very effective arguments in its favor, without offering any solution, I have been judged vehemently suspect of heresy, that is, of having held and believed that the sun is the center of the world and unmoving and that the earth is not the center and that it moves.
Therefore, wishing to remove from the minds of Your Eminences and of every faithful Christian this vehement suspicion justly conceived about me, with a sincere heart and a non-fictitious faith I abjure, I curse and detest the aforementioned errors and heresies, and generally any and all other error, heresy and sect contrary to the Holy Church; and I swear that in the future I will never again say or assert, either verbally or in writing, things for which a similar suspicion might arise about me; but if I should know of any heretic or one who is suspected of heresy, I will denounce them to this Holy Office, or to the Inquisitor or Ordinary of the place where I am found.
I also swear and promise to completely fulfill and observe all the penances that have been or will be imposed on me by this Holy Office; and should I transgress any of these my promises and oaths, which God forbid, I submit to all the penalties and punishments that are imposed and promulgated by the sacred canons and other general and particular constitutions against similar delinquents. So help me God and these His holy Gospels, which I touch with my own hands.
I Galileo Galilei, have abjured, sworn, promised and obligated myself as above; and in faith of the truth, with my own hand I have subscribed this present deed of my abjuration and recited it word for word, in Rome, in the convent of Minerva, this day 22 June 1633.
I, Galileo Galilei, have abjured as above, with my own hand."
