Indeed, he was mainly an assimilative genius, capable of bringing to an extreme synthesis the musical zeitgeist that surrounded him. To simply say that he copied is envy.

A smooth and enthusiastic review! For me, it's a beautiful record, around 4-4.5, but I find that Porgy & Bess and Sketches Of Spain are even better, hence my 4, which definitely isn’t meant to diminish the work!!

Sorry Kosmo, I remind you that a good part of the critical "reconstruction" regarding the personalities of musicians and their relationship with their music is based on anecdotes. Musicians talking about musicians. Shall we throw everything into the river? Of course, we need to make distinctions regarding credibility... some hyperbolic anecdotes, or those that serve no purpose other than gossip, or tainted by a conflict of interest, should raise suspicions because they tend to exalt the myth, sow discord, discredit, or gain personal advantages at the expense of another. For a while, someone spread the rumor that Miles and Tony Williams had a sexual relationship, for example... it was even said that he and Monk got into a fight (but when, really!). And some stories about Charlie Parker and his erotic exploits are so exaggerated they make you smile. It’s different when a musician relays another musician's feelings about the artistic success of their work. Because would it be strange for Miles not to be particularly proud of doo-bop? He who was always very self-critical; and what would that other person gain by saying nonsense? In short, if every assertion had to be judged credible only if it were presented in court by the interested party with audio-video recordings and a final signature in blood, we would be in trouble. Right? The fact that it is written in a biography does not necessarily make a statement more credible, besides... if someone made up nonsense, it remains nonsense, whether verba volant or scripta manent. But in this case, I see no reasonable grounds to doubt the veracity of a statement that is, after all, "neutral"…

I give you the importance of a cockroach on my parquet floor. And be quiet microbe, remember your crazy reaction (you brushed against suicide) to the other review...

Abortion is my term. First of all, because it didn't finish gestation (Miles, in the meantime, had died), then because he died at birth. I don't think there are any official interviews of Miles on the subject; I remember years ago seeing a documentary in which musicians who had played with him, producers, and acquaintances spoke; someone questioned about doo-bop replied that they didn't consider it a worthy testament of Miles' art and that he himself was dissatisfied with how the album was developing.

If you don't think doo-bop is a great album, why should you be outraged and call someone a villain for considering it a disaster? I mean, it’s not Miles Smiles! In that case, it would really be worth getting angry if some hygiene enemy gave it a 3, or a 4 "rounded up" (you’ve hit the jackpot Miles, thank the microbe that grants its precious and magnanimous 4 to one of your artistic peaks).
Gato Barbieri Bolivia/Under Fire

I know Barbieri through the various (fantastic) Chapters and "El Pampero," as well as for his participation in Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra and Carla Bley's Escalator Over The Hill. I miss this, but not for long!! Great Karimba!!!
