Solea is a masterpiece of the album! It feels like witnessing the slaughter of the bull in the arena... you can feel the scorching sand, the sun beating down, and it seems you can see the blood staining everything. A piece of music that is ruthless and cruel, brutal yet sublime.

Just one thing, if you want to read the review: the editors put it under Pollini, not under Chopin. Well, it's enough to click on the nickname...bye!

I'm glad you listened to it, but mostly that you enjoyed it! By the way, it's a very enduring CD; the more you listen to it, the more interesting details you discover. P.S.: while you're at it, could you give me some progressive tips? See what DeBaser is for ;)

So, listen to the first two albums of the Mahavishnu Orchestra by John McLaughlin: "The Inner Mounting Flame" and "Birds Of Fire"... they will blow your mind! Talk to you later.. Bye

A consideration on standards, however: it is impossible to fully appreciate their interpretation (no matter how masterful) without knowing the source material, namely one or more vocal versions of the same. I recommend everyone to listen to the songbooks of Ella Fitzgerald, for example, in which she wonderfully tackles the repertoire of Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hart, George & Ira Gershwin, Irving Berlin, Harold Arlen, Jerome Kern, and Johnny Mercer. Once you know the melody of the song, it becomes much easier (and more satisfying) to follow the improvisations, especially since many great interpreters deviate quite a bit from the main theme! If one is not familiar with it, there is a risk of missing the brilliance of certain abstractions. And everything can seem cold and sterile, in a word: boring. (since it’s hard to follow the thread of the conversation, at first it seems that the musicians are not very communicative)

Thank you Mister...In this case, having plenty of space available (6cd!), there are several long tracks that almost seem like "piano solos with bass and drums" :)). However, there are also many standards...maybe you'd like it halfway!

Hey 47, nice review! I confess I'm quite ignorant of the genre, anyway... P.S.: thanks for the tip on I.O.U. by Allan Holdsworth, I'm really enjoying it ;) How's it going with jazz for you?

Yes, Ole, I love Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, King Crimson, The Who, The Doors, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, Allman Brothers Band, Santana, Radiohead, Police, Yes, Area, P.F.M., Janis Joplin, Joni Mitchell, Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake, Tom Waits, etc. etc. And once I was really into Heavy Metal and virtuosic guitarists: the old Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden, Dream Theater, Black Sabbath, Steve Vai, Joe Satriani... even Malmsteen, I admit it! Nowadays, I mainly listen to jazz, classical, quality fusion, and auteur rock. And depending on the company, some quality pop as well (you know, Ben Harper).
