Hoping that this review doesn't end up as a chaotic village festival (Trota and Alessio are the teachers here), I believe that: 1) Ghemison is right in saying that we shouldn't act like we are superior and claim that there's nothing good today, even though I think that Primiballi's attitude is not of this kind, but simply a generational factor; 2) "it's not the name that matters, it's the quality." I agree. And I also agree that there are old glories nowadays capable of impressing. Besides the already mentioned Wyatt, I would make the same argument for Waits, Fossati, De Gregori, Vecchioni, just to name a few. Anyway, I repeat: I haven't listened to this CD and I didn't know about it until Primiballi wrote this review, so I won't express an opinion. Perhaps I'll like it, perhaps not... but right now I don't know. 3) Still for Ghemi: well, you've discovered hot water by mentioning fallen old glories when you cite Dalla! He has declined since "Henna," but even in his worst albums, there are a few redeemable tracks... (examples: "Ayrton" from "Canzoni" or "Malinconia D'Ottobre" from "Il Contrario Di Me")

I know you’re joking, but know that in my opinion she has done great things too... listen to "Africana" (produced with Brian Eno, not just some random guy) and then we can talk about it again.

Pixies77, do you ever consider that when it comes to the '80s I could be talking about MUSIC in general? Because according to your argument, I should be playing "spot the odd one out: Fugazi, Lucio Battisti, Cure"...

Senzastile, this is the only ENTIRELY beautiful album by the 99 Posse. There would also be "La Vida Que Vendrà", but it has two dreadful tracks ("Comuntwist" and "La Scelta"). The rest is mostly trash. As solo artists... strangely, Meg with some of the latest songs from "Psychodelice" didn't disappoint me.

For all those who still consider the '80s "damned" anyway... with artists like Sisters of Mercy, The Smiths, Killing Joke, Cult, the Cure, Depeche Mode, Donald Fagen, Kraftwerk (even if not in top form compared to the '70s), CCCP, Gaznevada, Krisma, Garbo, Faust'O, the pre-Panelliana transformation Battisti, De André, Guccini, Teresa De Sio, Enzo Avitabile, Battiato, Peter Gabriel, Pino Daniele (when he still had that extra gear), Dalla, Husker Du (whom I know little), the aforementioned Fugazi and Dead Kennedys, Tom Waits, the Metallica of their golden age... is there still courage to call them DAMNED? Happy for you, unhappy for me. Keep squabbling over the various clones of Dream Theater, go on...

"In 2000, many placed "What's the story..." among the ten best albums of the century... today, who would make such a delirious statement again...? ponder, people, ponder....." Among the ten albums of the century NO, among the albums of the '90s yes, but not a masterpiece in my view... nice, but not a masterpiece...

I don't know about you, but I've been reflecting for a few days on this kind of debate. And I think it's time to say enough with the term "alternative music." Music is music; it can be beautiful or ugly.
