Interesting observation. Describing the KC with the phrase "catchy melodies" might be a bit simplistic.

Let’s call it horrible. @sorcio, I'm sorry I don't hang out in the chat anymore, maybe during the holidays we'll have a chance to catch up. How's the tecnotrumpazza going? ;-)

But what could it have meant?

I would also add Spirogyra (St. Radigunds) to the previous list, although I haven’t listened to it thoroughly yet. And maybe "The Power of the Picts" by Writing on the Wall, an explosive mix of hard rock and psychedelia (it has little to do with prog, but oh well).

Hard-progressive? I WANT IT! As soon as possible, I'll do the homework :-)

@Supersoul, I've never heard of them, but if you recommend them, I'll note them down right away, thanks!

@MisterGigi, one possible journey through the progressive "underground" could be this: Arcadium (Breathe Awhile), Caravan (In the Land of Grey and Pink), Hatfield & the North (self-titled), Soft Machine (Third), Matching Mole (self-titled), Khan (Space Shanty), Egg (The Polite Force), High Tide (self-titled), Renaissance (Scheherazade and Other Stories), Magma (Mekhanik Destruktiw Kommandoh), String Driven Thing (The Machine That Cried), Comus (First Utterance), Pavlov's Dog (Pampered Menial), Atomic Rooster (Death Walks Behind You)... Obviously, there would be countless others to mention if desired.

However, I would invite all those who see progressive solely as Genesis, Yes, and King Crimson to listen to some "underground" progressive, maybe contaminated with psychedelia, hard rock, folk, jazz, etc.

@manaus68, << Typical comments from those who haven't listened much. >>, you should tone it down a bit, saying that if one doesn't give their all to this album it's because they haven't listened to it enough is truly an absurd level of arrogance and self-importance. It's precisely because I've listened to it a lot and then explored other things that I realize that, while it's an excellent album with some beautiful parts, it’s not the pinnacle of progressive (understood in the broadest sense).
