I haven't seen the movie or read the book; I've preferred to indulge in Welles and Shakespeare, attracting accusations of intellectualism. The fact that it's a commercial product crafted with care seems absolutely true to the point of bordering on the obvious. Such kitschy elements as "the teenager many will identify with, the presence of characters who have the sole merit of being beautiful" have always existed, just think of Titanic.
