Rollins Band Come in and Burn

Look Mocampo, having seen at least thirty concerts a year for thirty-two years, I don't think I'm exaggerating at all, considering there are people here who talk about Fugazi, Rollins, and punk bands, pogoing and various antics, not because they were there but because they've seen them on YouTube...

I don't even know if I should be happy or not about the mess I've created. What bothers me is that despite my thorough explanations, many still misunderstand. There was no stage diving. No pogo. No chaos. I can say this because I’m of a certain age and I believe I've seen, aside from Super, as many concerts as all those who have come to this page combined; I’ve seen and done some concerts where people wanted to get hurt. That wasn't the case here. Mr. Rollins behaved like a perfect jerk on that occasion. Period. Because putting your hands on a girl who weighs half of what you do and does nothing but want to dance can only be done by someone with serious issues. I don't understand what bothers you. Did I ruin your sacred image? I'm sorry. Major labels and doing it yourself have nothing to do with this. The murder of JC, which happened two years after that night I saw him act like an idiot, has nothing to do with it either. So every attempt to justify him seems ridiculous to me. I was there. I didn’t like what Mr. Rollins was saying back then, and seeing what he did only confirmed what I thought: that he was a little fascist, and like all little fascists, violent and ignorant. Maybe he wasn't before, maybe he isn't now. In any case, the respect I could have had for him is gone. Forgive me for having dared to say this.

It would be nice, though, Ale and Super, if you didn’t play the Poletti and didn’t take things out of context. 1) I called him a little fascist, apologizing in advance, because it’s a term that I also find quite disgusting 2) The little fascist isn’t defined by a kick in the ass, but by everything that surrounds him (I repeat, trust me and don’t ask me to pull out his interviews from those years, but they were full of nonsense that sounded like leftover Nietzsche, sprinkled, I reiterate, with a misogyny as hateful as it is unwarranted) 3) A kick in the ass is justified if someone is being a pain in the ass, not if they try to get on stage with no offensive intent 4) The kick in the ass, which wasn’t actually a kick in the ass but a slap, shoves, screams, and insults, towards someone who you blew on and they fainted. See, it’s not a matter of right or left; it’s just that ā€œlittle fascistā€ is synonymous for me with an act of aggression, physically done against someone who has no way to defend themselves. If someone of his size had spat in his face, he would have every reason to get angry and fight back. Did I explain myself? Obviously without any polemical spirit, just to have a chat and, indeed, to clarify things.

I'm sorry, Alessio, but you're starting to make ridiculous statements. If he wanted to kick him in the ass, would he? What kind of nonsense is that? The episode was ridiculous and disgusting in itself. A hundred kilos of muscle against a scatterbrain? You were in kindergarten in '89. I was reading his bullshit about supermanism infused with annoying misogyny. I went to the concert already skeptical, and he acts like a jerk? I've seen Fugazi and nothing ever happened; McKaye only gets angry if people are moshing too much, but only because he's afraid someone will get hurt because he cares about people. I've seen the Clash in a spit cage, and Jones and Simonon didn't even flinch, while Strummer, covered up, only asked if they could tone it down after the fifth song. Hundreds of bands, including the Stooges, inviting people on stage to have fun together. If you don't like it, just say so; don’t act like Berlusconi's bodyguards, come on. Especially if you have the story of the Black Flag behind you.

I'll tell you, a bit, sorry for the term, a little fascist. November '89, the Turned On tour, live at the Isola. There's a girl, rather high, trying to get on stage to dance. He literally kicks her down and starts insulting her for a few minutes. Quite a pointless scene, to say the least idiotic. All seasoned with his superman-like statements of the time. Well...

Beautiful page, even if you occasionally talk about something else. Who is playing with him now? And Amsterdam? Don't tell me he didn't do it? Anyway, it's impossible to have a bad evening with Fiumani. Not only does he have an impressive repertoire of songs, but he still works hard and has a dignity that few can afford (yes, the comparison is with Pelù, who is now ridiculous, but also with many Italian rockers, like Ligabue, who instead is pathetic). For once, we need to be rhetorical and acknowledge that it’s not success that makes the difference.

For once, I partially agree with Fusi. I even find Santacroce likable, but she is, to say the least, a pathetic writer. In fact, the term "writer" is even excessive. On the other hand, Baricco's judgment is bordering on the ridiculous, a sentiment that I doubt even crosses his mind, considering he teaches writing...

Rece política. Beautiful. Every comment is superfluous, even if that "one of the most significant singles in rock history" from Don, which I obviously agree with, intrigues me quite a bit. I’ll avoid it. I'm going to put on 4 Way Street.

Uh, uh, dear Newfoundland breeding... from cases to choices: isn't it lovely? And the new, exciting CD by Biagio Antonacci? A bit perplexed, but it's a luxury.
