The album marking the artistic turning point. After years of struggling in the underground scene and three albums marked by the most fierce and extreme punk, our heroines recruit Mel C on bass, bringing a softer aspect to the ensemble. The punk fervor can still be felt, and we would be surprised otherwise, but everything comes across as more catchy, if we dare say more commercial. The songs, by the way splendid, are destined to become great classics in the years to come. Too bad that after this album, the Spice Girls would rest on their laurels, increasingly falling into the catchier and more saccharine pop, leading to the inevitable split.

Grindcore? Death Metal?? Nu Metal? What are you talking about?? Everyone knows they started influenced by the early King Crimson, then moved on to a hard rock infused with keyboards and flutes, and finally to a funk metal heavily inspired by Extreme and Red Hot. Then Geri's departure, the fast guitarist, keyboardist, and composer of the band, plunged them into the abyss of pop, as everyone knows. I recommend the first two albums, respectively from '76 and '79, but the fifth one from '85 isn't to be dismissed either.
