THE REVIEW

"hey hey you you"...

With "girlfriend" opens Avril Lavigne's new album "the best damn thing," meaning "the best damn thing" (the album also features contributions from Deryck Whibley - frontman of Sum41 - and Travis Barker - the former drummer of Blink182).

After a three-year absence, Avril returns to make herself heard with a new album, engaging, fresh, and carefree. The girl all about skateboards and ties from "let Go" has gone out the window, just like the tormented girl from "under my skin" searching for her identity and the meaning of her life. Now she has found it! It seems she woke up one day, screaming "Damn! I want to make my dear fans dance who must be fed up with the boring ballads I threw at them"... (guys, am I getting too mean?... it's just that today's not my day). In short, Avril is back more charged than ever, she has finally made peace with her wardrobe, married the hunchback of Notre Dame, bought a nice villa in LA, and spat on the paparazzi's heads... all things that we are destined to do eventually.

Having finished adolescence, she opens a new chapter in her life.. probably the happiest one since good songs often come from meditated suffering.. and, let's be honest: there's very little good in 'The best damn thing'... If talking about Limoncello is an satisfyingly sophisticated and chic thing, that's fine, but don't tell me it has a deep meaning.. There are still some nice songs such as "Innocence" and "When you're gone" that still have good lyrics and even a good melody that make you actively participate in the sense of the song.. Avril is like this: always something good and something bad. well.. she is human too! ..I quote her own words: "this album doesn't make sense, it's not one of those records where you can say: oh yes, it really means a lot to me, it's based on personal experiences... it was created specifically to entertain my fans".

The fact is she's finally among us living human beings again.. So let's enjoy her next steps with a nice glass of limoncello!!! &

Avril I loooooooove you did you think I forgot, huh? Kiaaaaaaa

Summary by Bot

Avril Lavigne's 'The Best Damn Thing' marks her energetic return after three years, delivering a fun and carefree album. While some tracks like 'Innocence' and 'When You're Gone' show depth, the album mostly focuses on entertaining fans with catchy and playful songs. Collaborations with Deryck Whibley and Travis Barker add punk flair. Overall, Avril embraces a lighter, more joyous season in her music, though the album lacks profound meaning.

"When You're Gone" by Avril Lavigne is the most beautiful and intelligent track from her latest album.

All in all, it’s a very listenable album, not at all boring, but above all fun and cheerful like Avril.

I believe it is definitely catchy, with the right mix of fun and entertaining tracks along with softer and mellower ones.

I recommend it to those who want to have fun, as the singer herself has often stated.

"Just the first single, 'Girlfriend', is enough to make you shiver, with cliches more than overused of fake heavy guitars sped up by overdubbing and sing-songy voice."

"The only poetess and princess of punk is and always will be Patti Smith, and forgive me if that’s not much."

Sickly sweet pop evidently engineered to dominate the fragile and stupid minds of today’s teenagers.

Copies sold: almost three million, 'here I start crying.'
