Originality has now been proven to be purely subjective (there are 15,000 reviews on DeB that prove this), compositional talent and sound exploration, for me, fall under the genres of technique.

Well, to be honest, many (even those you wouldn't suspect) have said this on this site, what can I do? Maybe I should get angry and point out that those who say this don't understand a damn thing about music, but honestly, I’m so far removed from the world of Envy and Resentment between fans that I don't care. If you’ve noticed, my comments rarely make comparisons because they’re unpleasant. Right now, there’s a review in HP comparing Stone Roses to Sonic Youth, and I wonder what the reason is, if not to provoke in order to spark a debate about the review itself (among other things, the reviewer is usually good, which perplexes me even more...) For me, Scaruffi is just that: a skilled provocateur who has figured out how to get his name out there. I could pull out millions of historical truths about Maiden, but I’ll always be seen as someone without an objective perspective because, at this point, Maiden is a band for kids and idiots, because someone with more oratory skills than me has decided it.. I’m not being a victim; in fact, I’m proud of this. I was even called a Reactionary some time ago, and I've never been prouder of a label thrown at me, so, guys, you’re right, Maiden (just like the Beatles, Queen, etc. etc.) are crap, you’re right, but be careful, they’re my crap (in the sense that I know almost everything about this crap), so it’s all good. As I said in a post above, they want to present Lisa Germano as an extremely influential artist and not Amos, PJ, and Bjork... or Type O Negative (who I also really like) more than Maiden. What should I do? I’m a reactionary; I don’t think that way... but take it easy with the insults... at least that... Sorry for the outburst... Ah Dave, of course, I’m not mad at you... ;-) Bye!

I can tell you that personally, I find "SSoaSS" artistically more interesting than anything by Davis; sooner or later, someone will have to find the courage not to be ashamed of their tastes because a group of intellectuals decided who is artistically valid or not, right? Now, if we talk about technique (the only topic where we can really bring up objectivity), that's a different story, but let me say, speaking of Scaruffi, it seems to me that he's much more interested in this... or not? ;-)

I took LongLive's speech personally (and not "Revelatory" in the Piero way, you know..), your response seemed a bit sour to me, if that's not the case, I apologize. Bye!

These are personal tastes, and with all due respect, Dave, you should stop comparing yourself to these problems because they hurt your likability (and you know I like you). Many others should do the same. Personally, I find Jazz (and other genres) boring, but I don't go around saying it's an inferior genre, even though in a democratic setting I could think that, and I believe I wouldn't be alone; it’s just that many lack the courage to say it because it seems a bit uncultured. But if I say it, what changes? It's my opinion (and I assure all the lovers of objectivity that there would be things to say...). This is where Scaruffi is wrong, making comparisons that don’t make sense to exist. As for critical ability, I’m not the right person to establish the validity of his thoughts or not, but at least I have the humility to admit it. Let it be clear, there’s no reference to any user; it’s just a friendly discussion between me and Dave.

I had promised not to intervene anymore, but the Maiden have been brought up ;-). Longlive, please leave the Maiden out of this; they are hated here due to prejudices, let’s not bring them up even with the Beatles, for goodness’ sake, do me this favor. Ah @Dave: I love you, but I confirm, you don’t like the Maiden because of your preconceived notions, we’ve already talked about this. Bye to both of you!
