The dodo or dronte (Raphus cucullatus, Linnaeus 1758) was a bird from the island of Mauritius.
It was flightless, fed on fruits, and nested on the ground. It quickly became extinct in the second half of the 17th century following the arrival of the Portuguese first and then the Dutch on the island.
The dodo arrived in Mauritius by flying, probably starting from Central Africa (where fossil remains have been found). Once in the island, it was about 35 cm long, a small size compared to the meter in length it reached before the arrival of the colonizers (it measured over 50 cm in height and weighed 25 kg). In the absence of predators, dodos grew in size and unlearned how to fly. Unable to defend themselves except by pecking, they were exterminated in just over a century.
The myth that extinction was due to hunting by sailors appears unfounded; both Portuguese and Dutch sources describe dodo meat as unappetizing. If the term dodo derives from the Portuguese doudo, meaning "simpleton," perhaps also understood as "easy prey," the Dutch term walgvogel means "disgusting bird." The most accepted theory is that the dodo became extinct due to habitat destruction caused by settlers, who condemned the dodo by deforesting the island and introducing antagonistic animal species such as dogs, pigs, rats, and monkeys. According to some sources, the last dodo was sighted in 1662; others report 1681 as the year of extinction. The dodo was, however, an easy target to catch, being clumsy and slow on land.

Nothing is a 5 by default; I saw it 7 years ago in Milan, and he gave a concert that was a flat 1, annoying (him) and boring (me and him).

But the Maiden, being an ethereal thing, will continue to captivate those receptive to their Art (the capital A is not a coincidence).

Living Happily (uppercase not casual) and being forgotten, this is the characteristic of us humble people (maybe that's why we mind our own business.. ;-) ). But as long as we're here, we're happy and content!
