terrible review

I wanted to write a million things about this album. I wanted to say that it's beautiful but also ugly. That it's disappointing, because disappointing is the end of grunge and all that. That it's beautiful, because the stories of grunge are sad and wonderful... but you have inadvertently, irreparably, ruined everything... I don't blame you at all; in fact, perhaps I should thank you for lifting this weight off me, for helping me break free from this burden I had imposed on myself. Never again grunge, grunge nevermore.

To me, it didn’t seem like a rant at all. They’re good observations, after all. It’s true, Americans can be a bit unsophisticated, rough around the edges, but a nice love song by Elisa, like "Dancing," could still find its place again and again in the US... I’m not saying it would conquer the US charts, but it could carve out its own very dignified space (and thus gain greater credentials in the international market). What Elisa should aim for is not absolute success or sales records, but rather "artistic citizenship" in America.

And anyway, the most important thing is that no one has come after me for saying that Mia Martini was and is no one. I would have expected some super-doctoral colleague to provide a good fifteen elements that I didn't even consider (and don’t even know) to refute me and compel me to quit for good... but that hasn’t (yet) happened...

well... the music of the daisy. the skies of Ireland, the songs of the Brazilians, the interviews with Fabio Fazio, the glimpses on the sofa of "parla con me" on the third channel, the coverage of her concert among people who are sleeping and people like her, always on the third channel, the little signature on the initiatives of the girotondini... music for rutelliani. she is an artist just as Fabio Fazio is journalism, as the caiman is cinema, and as Rutelli is politics.

well... if Lavigne, Hilary Duff, and Paris Hilton can sell, I don't see why she can't sell, considering she could devour them and their editors in one bite. if you want to compare her to Björk, it doesn't hold up, mainly because Elisa is much more easy listening. but if it's pop and pop rock that you're looking for, well find me someone in America who can sell more and better than Elisa. Elisa, go to the USA and get produced by Rundgren, Ocasek, Visconti, Vig, Alan Moulder, Daniel Lanois...
