Warnings: the album in question is only suitable for those who dream of telling the whole world to fuck off! But doing it with style is quite difficult because the anger you feel inside is repressed by the thought that there's certainly some jerk saying you're making a mistake.
All in all, this is the essence of an album like "Results May Vary," angry, experimental, at times even sappy. It's a continuous must of anger and delicateness, which compete for the term "what kind of music is it?" in the album. I mean, there are the heavy hits (and oh, there are…). I quite like the music, the album just makes me think that Slipknot needs to take back everything they've said about them. Because this album kicks ass and tells everyone to screw off! I'm not talking about the usual cocky tough-guy record, as our dear Fred has always accustomed us. For me, it represents the more experimental side of Limp Bizkit, inspired by Faith No More (note I'm not saying this album is like "King for a Day," I'm talking about the way the songs are laid out... calm/sweet).
The album is preceded by a badass single: Eat You Alive, ruthless throat-slashing crossover, with a dark and aggressive edge. Powerful, and a little noisy. But that's the point of the album! To shout out all your anger; the cover openly represents the message of the new Bizkit, a little less flashy and more sensible now. I believe that you especially need to listen to the album from a perspective different from the typical angry metalhead who listens only to Death Metal, simply because you won't find much of it in "Results May Vary," only screams and tears. There are punches to the teeth never heard before: Gimme the Mic, for example! Staccato double bass drum, a seven-string poisoned guitar, and truly violent industrial samples. Special, to say the least, Gimme the Mic is chilling, the noise of Industrial, the streetwise Hip Hop anger and the harshness of Nu Metal, even though there's a lot of hardcore in this song. It's like a person who has always been mistreated and one day decides to fight back, resolving it with punches and kicks to the ribs on Gimme the Mic, while on Behind the Blue Eyes they diplomatically explain their disapproval, but without much success. In fact, BtBE is nothing less than the expressed work of my stories. Another masterpiece is Phenomenon, also endowed with a paced rhythm, with a sprinkling of double bass drum. The only difference with Gimme the Mic (the absolute masterpiece of the album), is the fact that Phenomenon has an ironic touch, while Gimme the Mic is much more somber. I would love to stay; but I can't, talking all the time about Gimme but I can't just because I'd be repetitive.
If it were up to me, I'd say that "Results May Vary" is one of the best Rapcore/Alt. Metal albums in recent years. The compliments especially go to the guitar riffs, which I still haven't figured out how they could have been conceived, maybe for the changes in rhythm, in tone ... Or maybe because they are deeply felt. The fact is, with this album Limp Bizkit represents a very varied side of their music, repressed in Behind the Blue Eyes and as violent as never before in Phenomenon. We're not talking about Negazione, this is a more elaborated rage rather than impulsive and primitive like our local ones just mentioned. Punching a wall that will never fall is what Limp Bizkit talks about and has always talked about. Perhaps here in a more poetic way (but still angry), before maybe it was more aimed at the sound: I play in a garage. We won't find another Counterfeit, but rather something with a more varied guitar; even if Wes Borlan is Wes Borland... . Cold yes, but still intelligent. I'd say a bit chaotic and brash. But I wouldn't define it exactly like that. It's like shouting something incomprehensible at people, it's realizing how much it can disappoint and disillusion. I'd give a 4 to the album just because it's music for a real jerk, with a wild sound and I'd give a 4 to the album just because it's music for a true romantic, with a sound delicate but morbid.
Notes: Eat You Alive - When I said this song had a dark and violent edge, I didn't mean that Korn, Darkthrone, and Nine Inch Nails jerk off 24/7.
Yet another nonsense - Sorry for the duplicate review. But I liked the album so much what the hell do you want to do about it >_>.
