I'm sorry, bjork68, how can you ask me such a question? Anyway, I'll try to answer you: Metallica are more influential because, besides being co-inventors of thrash metal, by merging thrash and speed metal, they paved the way for what modern metal is after the fading of the NWOBHM effect. Slayer, on the other hand, because, besides being co-inventors of thrash as well, have greatly influenced the more extreme genres of metal like black and death. Let's try to count the bands that draw inspiration from Zeppelin-like sounds and influences. I believe we would find very few. Unless someone tells me that U2, Bon Jovi, Gotthard, Dire Straits, Aerosmith, etc., just because they play rock or hard rock, have been influenced by Led Zeppelin... that doesn't seem right at all, does it?
To blackdog, who argues that Black Sabbath are less influential than Led Zeppelin, well, the only explanation I can provide is that either you've been listening to rock for two days, or you only listen to a few (very few) subgenres of rock, or for you rock music after Led Zeppelin exclusively means the new albums of the Rolling Stones, the Kinks, Status Quo, The Who, and so on. In that case, I would understand your statement.

Well, definitely not heavily overrated. A little overrated in my opinion, yes. Anyway, they are great. No doubt about it. But to say they are the most influential group in the history of rock... well, no: that simply doesn't exist. From this perspective, they can't even compare to Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Metallica, Slayer, Helloween, or even Diamond Head (although a lesser group, not even comparable to Led Zeppelin if we consider other parameters...).

Among all the idiots who have written and said a lot of nonsense about Metallica and this record, you are the worst. Because you say that the songs are beautiful, but then you give it a 3! I'm speechless.

Thetrooper,
your statements are truly outrageous and shameful. On this album (and not just this one), you've already said a lot of nonsense. But now, while personal tastes are indisputable, for you to say it’s not a fundamental album is unacceptable: songs like Nothing Else Matters and Enter Sandman are among the most important of all time, certainly more than your beloved Fear of the Dark and Wrathchild. Stop saying things that don't reflect the real reality, but only the reality you wish for, which would suit you: you display envy, a shameful and disrespectful envy. And unfortunately, this is quite a recurring phenomenon in the world of metal, unlike the rest of the rock scene. Just listen to De Maio's statements criticizing this band and that band, claiming to be the only one making true metal (a bit like how you think of Iron): another great envious person who, in the face of evidence and the decree of success, would do better to be quiet. At least outside of metal it's different: there is great respect among everyone and in both directions. Imagine the Who or Cream (or their fans) cursing Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin, arguing over who invented what, the success of albums, etc... or Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin themselves debating who influenced more, who made the better album, who created the purest hard rock… etcetera... sounds bad, doesn’t it? It would seem so ridiculous, wouldn’t it? Simply because it has never happened. And it never will. Fortunately. Because no one feels the need for it.
