Well, in China, Ch'an is dead and buried (just like Buddhism as a whole, really). It's kind of ironic that Japan is referred to as the land of Zen when the overwhelming majority of Buddhists there are affiliated with Jodo (forgive the lack of elongations), whereas Korea is never mentioned as a land of Zen even though almost everyone there is from the Chogye school, which is a derivation of Zen... you know...
