Katsuhiro Otomo Akira
Voto:
@Tragopano: Well, I don't share the belief that Takahata is more "fundamental" than the master of Studio Ghibli (for whatever meaning one might ascribe to the word "fundamental"), but anyway, that's not the issue, since going back to the topic (Otomo), it needs to be seen for what "Akira" was at that time from a visual standpoint (regarding the story, and I think I mentioned this in my review if I remember correctly, I can agree that it’s definitely not well developed, not like in the comic, also for obvious reasons of "scale" ;-D) and that is a true apocalypse (in the exact sense of the word: "revelation"). Of course, now seen through the eyes of someone who grew up in the post-'80s (if you can say that) anime era, it may appear "old" (I don’t understand the argument that "Akira" remaining as it is is a bad thing: for me, that’s a plus) but everything (except for a few rare exceptions) inevitably carries with it the era from which it comes...and I know that can cause some discomfort regarding "Akira" in the current context, as far as courage and inspiration go, it can only "dust off the shoes" for what I think. Bye.

Umberto Eco Il Nome Della Rosa

Thank you (also for Di Canio ;-D). As I recently mentioned, I adore Eco (in every aspect: the scholar, the essayist, the intellectual, etc. etc.), but as a novelist (http://timeanddistance.splinder.com/post/23527186/il-cimitero-di-praga) he has also published works not up to his level (nothing to say about him as an essayist) like "La Misteriosa Fiamma della...". Anyway, I also have high expectations for the latest one (the interview with Fazio had me dying laughing!). Bye!
Ps. No problem with the length of the comment: I'm in favor of taking up space but arguing (like you do) rather than being brief and just spouting c.....e :-D

I share little of the review but appreciate those who provide reasoning. Everything matters.

Beautiful is beautiful, but I find that "deflagrante" is a bit contradictory just two adjectives away from "coeso": anyway, maybe it's just me missing something.

Eh... yes... "if someone wanted" not "if someone would want". Dyslexic tonight :-D

It's a nice piece, but if someone wanted to delve deeper into the subject, they would find very little to rely on (don't take it as a criticism: this site offers various modes of expression). I've never managed to have a definitive idea about Hopper.
