No, I absolutely disagree with what you say in comment 11: because if you start from this concept, then you should discard all reinterpretations: from poetry, to theater, to cinema, etc. etc.
I’ve always been fixated on this point of "simple reading" and that's where you're wrong, it’s not that. Often behind these works there is a complex effort of understanding and text analysis that truly provides new insights.

Well, perhaps for many, the radio isn’t useless (I won’t bore you, by the way, with how important it has been as a medium for humanity during more or less troubled historical phases), and I actually find that within the sad media landscape in Italy, it still offers some truly interesting content; it just depends on whether one has the desire and time to seek it out. As for audiobooks, I could agree with you if it were merely a reading of a work (and sometimes it is just that), but here we’re talking about reinterpretations that can provide new interpretations and new perspectives on something. I don’t believe that the passion for this is due to laziness, but rather can be found in the pleasure of being “told” something (a bit like the fairy tales from our grandmothers and mothers) with that warmth that the human voice (if the interpreter is good) can provide. That’s all.

Mmm, maybe Caz, you're a bit confused; the reviewer is talking about a scripted reconstruction of the stories in question and not just a simple reading (a bit like what has been done on the radio since the birth of that medium: think of Orson's great "War of the Worlds!") so I actually find it interesting.
