No, it wasn't balanced anymore. I always used the same tone and the same approach. If for your parameters this isn't "balance," I don't know what to tell you. With you, I used the same coin that you used with me. Neither more nor less: Post 71.

don't turn the tables, you never discussed my ideas in this post"
Indeed, I did not discuss them (besides the fact that I used the verb "to criticize": it's different from "to discuss"). I start from the assumption that your ideas are abominable. There is no need to discuss them.

Never been interested in making a good impression: I’m all about honesty, even when it’s uncomfortable and unpleasant. I’ve been honest with you as well. That’s enough for me; let others think what they want: they would do so anyway, I’m old enough to know that the approval of “others” is fleeting. I have already given you all possible explanations, and since you’re not adding anything new even in the last post, I don’t feel obligated to provide you with more. I just want to reiterate my satisfaction in not being among those you consider “civilized” or “informed” or “democratic,” etc. etc. Otherwise, I would feel like I have a problem. I don’t see why I should tell you “look, you’re talking nonsense about the Dalai Lama, you’re mistaken”… first because, even if it were my style, I would have to say it about almost everything you’ve written here (and in the review mentioned above), second because that would mean engaging with you on “ideas” and I have no intention of doing so. Regards.

No, no. I’m actually criticizing your ideas, but since I believe that ideas always have some basis in the person who generates them, I also draw my conclusions about you. Is it really that hard for you to accept? Did I ask you to stop? No. Did I talk about your past on DeB (about everything: music or otherwise)? No, I merely pointed out that the "debate" you referred to in your first post here was enough for me to place you among the users with whom I want the least “contact” possible (if I didn’t want any contact at all, I wouldn’t be writing here), and in fact, I don’t recall ever seeking a clash with you. Maybe the tone of your very first comment indicates that it was actually you who was looking for it, no? You leave a comment where you implicitly label me, at the very least, as misinformed (if not worse), and what do you expect me to say? “Go right ahead!” I replied in tone but in an ironic manner (and without accusing you of anything: that came later since you kept going with your "stubborn" attitude, always veiling sarcastic comments about my supposed misinformation or antidemocratic position. But excuse me, I forgot that you might expect others to meekly accept your "jabs"), but evidently in your part of the world, democracy only counts if it applies to you. In conclusion, I’ll repeat: no games to avoid confronting you... no games because I have no need for it... and because I AM NOT INTERESTED IN CONFRONTING YOU, PERIOD. You’re neither an interesting user (to me) nor (to me) particularly likable; quite the opposite, I already know your ideas and not only do I not share them, I find them abhorrent. Post 74 meant this. The fact that I continue to respond to you to help you understand my position should show you that it’s not a matter of not wanting you to express your ideas (if you want to go off-topic and talk here about your, to me, absurd ideas about 9/11, since that’s what you’ve wanted from the beginning, I promise I won’t leave any reply comment), but it’s a matter of me not even caring to hear them: sure, maybe many others do, perhaps even a majority of the users here—what do I know? The world is beautiful because it is varied, but if you’re looking for a conversational partner in me, you’ve got the wrong person: I’m not available. If that seems insincere, stubborn, antidemocratic, etc. etc., feel free, it doesn’t affect me. I don’t want to discredit you; you do that very well on your own: I’m just stating what I observe. P.S.: I’ve also been on deB for years, and I too have debated 99% of the time about music, books, or cinema, so spare me the pathos, please. Goodbye.

Maybe a Maiden fan enjoys being messed with, right? It wouldn't hurt to ask. Perhaps affection for something derives from external factors like the music (the availability and respect towards the fans, the fact that they play an average of 60 dates a year on 5 continents for ten consecutive years, not to mention the previous years, etc., etc.). Of course, if we look at the numbers, the 40 million copies sold of the "Black Album" don't necessarily mean they were sold but perhaps that they adapted to the market, yes, but that's not what’s being contested. The issue is that Mr. Hetfield, when it suited him, would say "we played metal to destroy metal from within" (interview on "Metal Shock" '92), and everyone would say "oh how great the Metallica are: they're experimenting" (but when? I ask), now that after twenty years they see that the wind has changed, they bring back a sound that they themselves considered obsolete. The "MTV" generation says "oh how tough the Metallica are!". I guess in the ranking of "fans messed with by their own idols," those of Maiden aren't in first place....

Apart from the fact that you are not a voice in the wilderness, many have expressed doubts about your writing. If you want to be clever and talk about democracy with me, I refer you to my post 39 where I state: "I wrote it almost in one go to keep it for myself in my diaries, but then I thought it would be nice to share it with you: the fact that it is not a review is obvious (and I understand those who contest that fact)." And I certainly didn't contest your "1" (which I don't believe I've ever done on DeB), but I ironically pointed out how out of place the meaning of post 71 was in that context. Aside from that, I repeat, "via giusta" refers to the fact that I find your "political" opinions so out of touch with reality that when you criticize mine, I take it as a compliment (but you understood that perfectly well). Moreover, I find debating with you perfectly pointless because I've already done it once and you revealed yourself to be a disingenuous and obtuse interlocutor (always in my very personal opinion), as you are doing now, by the way. I think your discourse on "aria" is absolutely correct: the point is, I have no intention of discussing anything with you other than air. Is that clear or should I draw you a picture?

Well, if they had continued down the path of Metal, they would have sold well (as they already did), but much less than what they do now and still continue to do. In the '90s, they would have sold very little like all the bands that stuck to playing Metal, whether it was classic, thrash, or whatever else—it's still Metal. The key point is realizing that among their current fans, the majority discovered them through the "Black Album," while many of the historical fans have (rightly) left them. And anyway, without MTV (including for the last album), they would have disbanded back in '91.
