Here yes, I've been redundant about elegance :) bye bye

I would like to add that besides technique, elegance also unites Federer and Kobe. And Sampras and MJ shared the fact of being perfect except for ONE element (Sampras's backhand, MJ's three-point shot).
Also, the parallel holds up over time (Sampras and MJ in the '90s, Federer and Kobe currently but in decline, Nadal and LeBron the first now).
So, the comparison wasn't bad. The fact remains that you are right about the very bold comparison between individual and team sports. Now, however, I have to go. Cheers!

Yes, Panic, it’s obvious you’re right. Mine was a little game based on just one element that connects the three pairs of characters. Sampras and MJ = absolute dominators; Nadal and LeBron = dominators (especially) from an athletic point of view; Kobe and Federer = dominators (especially) from a technical point of view. Just this. Bye PS Nowitzki elegant and clean? Mmmmmm I don’t agree. The other night I saw him make a post move that looked like Pinocchio, horrible.

I've got it, I've got it: Sampras = Michael Jordan, Nadal = LeBron James, Federer = Kobe Bryant. Think about it.

So you agree that Sampras was more exciting too?

He wrote, <<what's exciting about watching these two hammer away like blacksmiths... the only one and inimitable [in terms of excitement, I interpret, ndj_] will always be Pete Sampras!!!!>>. And anyway, I'm not defending Pistol Pete. I'm saying it: Sampras was more exciting.

(You're right, I missed it. I admit my mistakes... I.) // You continue to miss the point of the discussion: who cares about Roddick & Co. I'm talking about Sampras. And you've said it yourself that baseline play is more boring: that's what we were discussing. Sampras was more exciting (less boring) compared to the average of today’s power hitters. CVD. Au revoir, mon amour.

You speak as if having a great serve is the same as doping or having a d.g. like Moggi. Have the rules changed? If I’m not missing anything, it still seems legal and fair to serve strong: it’s part of the game. Not having a good serve is not an "excuse," nor is having one a flaw. In Sampras's case, add a formidable forehand for technique and power... even considering an average backhand: ENTHUSIASM.

..."altrettanta" is a typo; I'm specifying this before you have an orgasm.

Okay, if you look at it from this perspective, the discussion changes. Certainly, Federer has immense class, and I would exclude him from the conversation, given that he is universally recognized as an exception to the common playing style today. It is equally widespread (and I would say undeniable) the opinion that tennis today is much more "powerful" compared to ten/twenty years ago. You reduce Sampras to a player with lethal serves, like any Philippoussis, forgetting everything else, but especially his incredible technique at the net, which for me remains (but here we are in the realm of tastes) the most spectacular game, and therefore exciting.
