Uhm no, we’re not understanding each other. I'm not talking about this review (which I don't like, and not because of the lack of references you mention, but because it says things you can read anywhere), I'm talking about the general idea of reviewing painting. I see no problem with someone wanting to review a beautiful painting, just as I don't see any issues if someone wants to review Mozart. I agree that it may be more difficult to talk about very famous works. But not impossible: just read, for example, the review of Mozart's Requiem by JohnOfPatmos.

Casamorta, I don't understand: either you raise the same objection for music reviews (on Bach or Tom Waits, or whoever you choose), or... why can we write about masterpieces of music but not about masterpieces of painting?
