Devendra Banhart Nino Rojo

I also prefer the Cocobbone. The music is different; they’re mentioned together just because they’re part of the same 'scene'. Devendra has angelic guitar and voice. The Cocobbone add the drumbeats, the toys, two voices of perverse angels. And I think that’s a more captivating formula. Plus, add to that that Devendra is starting to get a bit too full of himself... I didn’t get this "Nino Rojo", it doesn’t seem to me - from what I’ve listened to - that it adds much to "Rejoicing...". Anyway, it received good feedback.

The review is beautiful as usual, but I’m afraid I might like her more than the album itself. I don’t know, Hal... the naturalness in folk is an important quality, but maybe not a real added value; I mean: I expect naturalness from a folksinger. If they have it, great, but what else do they offer me? ...I don’t know, today I woke up more of a pain in the ass than usual, and actually all this was just to ask you if you could include some samples? ;-)

Think about the journey of our discussion: from experimental lofi (Fog) to more aggressive experimenters (Oneida) to techno (Autechre) and then back to Fog (LexRecords). And the circle closes. Scientific proof that Fog is the best of all :D

Here, the new release from Fog (a matter of months) is coming out on LexRecords :)

Giubbo, I owe you an answer about Linkous's albums: the first one ("Vivadixie...") is the most bare in terms of sounds, mostly just guitar and voice, or electric tracks that are more intense but absolutely quirky, or little noisy "vignettes." The subsequent evolution moves towards a greater 'richness' of sound. The second one is a middle ground, while the last one, "It's A Wonderful Life" (which you know), is the most 'produced,' less varied compared to the previous ones (but it's also my favorite).

Dude, you know I trust you, but I've listened to "Secret Wars" thoroughly; it's a great album that rocks, but it doesn't really seem that experimental to me...

I saw Radio Dept in Brescia a few nights ago. I expected them to be different, you know, in terms of attitude? I expected them to be muuuch less naive, muuuch more full of themselves. But I actually liked the mood of the evening. Even the synth bases... I mean, it really felt like Sol and I were playing in front of you ;) Forget about the damn "new garage." Musically, well, they sound like Jesus & Mary Chain in 2005 (the necessary evolution). Pleasant, though.
