In my opinion, the best collection of Chuck Berry is definitely "the Great 28". The fact that it was from Chess Records means a lot. There's a strong influence from Charlie Christian and Elmore James. His signature riff, the one that appears in almost all of his songs ("Johnny B. Goode" and "Roll Over Beethoven" being the most famous), is the evolution of a lick by Robert Johnson, who at the time wasn't very well-known but whose style was filtered and absorbed by many bluesmen: just listen to "Dust My Broom" by Elmore James (a cover of Robert Johnson) to hear where the riff from Johnny B. Goode comes from. As John Lennon said: "there's only one true king of rock 'n' roll. His name is Chuck Berry."
