Remember Totti looking at Tudor and saying "So 4 zitto e a casa"? Well, the Dream Theater could have done the same last night if they had all those who constantly insult and criticize them on this site in front of them at the end of the show.
I had already been to PalaLottomatica two years ago to see Dream Theater during the "Octavarium" tour. It was a special tour, commemorating twenty years of activity, and it was an amazing evening, to say the least. At the time, I wasn't a big fan, but after hearing them live, I had to become one. Because I'm sure of this: those who judge them poorly have never heard them live.
Let's get back to today, to the "Chaos in Motion Tour". Naturally, as with all promotional tours, the setlist was based on songs from the latest album, which I must admit had not convinced me much, but which sounds incredible live.
The performance of our five heroes was masterful, with Rudess who seems to have continuous orgasms when playing keyboards, Myung always precise and orderly, Petrucci, who I think needs no comment, apart from having regrown his hair and returning to his previously scruffy self, and with a gigantic Portnoy who puts on a show within the show with his immense drum kit that Mastrota and Mondial Casa could only dream of! A separate discussion for the much-hated by me LaBrie, whom I have always considered the group's weak point, but I must admit for the second time he surprised me with a commendable performance.
As an appetizer, we were given a minilive by Symphony X, who did not disappoint thanks mainly to the frontman singer, but in the long run, they turned out to be quite monotonous and especially compared to Dream Theater's subsequent performance, they were in an entirely different league...
I didn't find the idea of a supporting group to be a great one, also because it reduced the Theater's live duration by a good hour compared to two years ago.
To conclude, if you have the chance, while there's still time, go see them; otherwise, one day you'll regret it...
