THE REVIEW

This debut by the Ravenna-based Comaneci is surprising (oh my God, I'm reviewing an Italian record!). Surprising for the maturity and choice of the weapons used by the trio in the arduous duel of the music market.

The three present themselves armed with guitars and cello... nothing more. Intimate and bare music therefore.
Our musicians create twilight ballads to be listened to by candlelight.. At more than one moment, this "Volcano" reminds me of another bare record I loved a lot, those by "Mi and L'au". And like the album by the Franco-Finnish duo, it is timeless. To be clearer, it might recall "White Chalk" by PJ Harvey, but more relaxed and hippie.

As I said, bare music also makes you appreciate the silences between one note and the next and the tremulous voice of Francesca or the wise and measured arpeggios. Music made with few means compared to many things we usually listen to... which perhaps also makes a virtue of necessity but is not poor in ideas for this reason. Everything seems necessary in these compositions. Try it... for example with "Knock me down" or "Nothing I", the intimate crescendos that they create allow us to imagine little stories in our mind.
I like to imagine natural landscapes from other times and places where rivers flow languidly, the wind gently moves the hair, the sun creates long shadows and illuminates without blinding, and bags hang over the shoulder. Ready for another journey.

In short... try these Comaneci, an Italian band with nothing to envy from international productions. For once, you can be patriotic without sacrificing musical taste...
The Comaneci are out there playing live, you know?
