Nick Drake Bryter Layter

Dear fusillo, my contribution is not fundamental, of course, just as I don't think it's essential to worry about the mental health of Drake: that was his affair; music listeners should, in my opinion, focus on the creative output of the artist.
The fact that I highlighted the non-exceptionality of Drake's vocal performances is a musical judgment, I could say "technical," debatable or not, but it seems to me objective, and which, based on my not-so-fundamental opinion, undermines the validity of the underlying musical backdrop.
Have you ever heard this said by other commentators on Nick Drake? I believe not.
It just takes having a slightly different yardstick for judgment, and voilà, one can contribute; something I wouldn’t have done if I had simply gone along with the one-sided praise for Drake, which I do not identify with.

In summary, I could say that the singing doesn't match the music, if you will. As for the essence of the album, I reiterate: I am not a passionate fan of Nick Drake, therefore I don't concern myself with the themes of the lyrics (in fact, I generally don't really consider the lyrics, especially from foreign artists; for me, music comes first), and reserving myself the opportunity to listen to his other works one day, for me Nick Drake's voice remains rather monotone, even when, at least in his intentions, he wanted to convey different types of emotions. As a composer of music, however, my judgment is much more flattering; some pieces are truly beautiful. I don't think I have any prejudices, but I simply put myself in a different perspective...

I indeed realized a mistake: along with "Poor Boy" as a "lively" track, I meant to mention "Hazey Jane II," the one after the introduction. As for the vocals, yes, opinions are subjective, but it's precisely his voice that makes, in my opinion, even the less intimate tracks feel understated. I've listened to the album several times, but, if you noticed, I didn't trash it, quite the opposite...
Giorgio Gaber Dialogo Tra Un Impegnato E Un Non So
Voto:
One of the cornerstones of Gaber's career. Fierce satire, but also a heartfelt analysis of the eternal dichotomy, widely debated at the time, between "public" life (caring about others, politics) and "private" life (personal issues).
In the end, Gaber always spoke about this.
A lot has been said about his political placement. In my opinion, he was fundamentally on the left, but he couldn't stand the blinders and conformism of the left. An unparalleled master. Well done, Poletti.

Nice review, but as a longtime fan of the band, I say that 2112 is not a masterpiece in my opinion, but the beginning of their entrance into rock legend. Songs like "Lessons" or "The Twilight Zone" are nice, but nothing more. In some ways, 2112 is still immature; the compositional maturity is still yet to come. I could define it as fundamental, but only as a prerequisite for the wonders of the subsequent years. Anyway, I'm glad to discover so many Rush fans on Debaser. Back in 1981, I thought I was the only one in Italy!

Beautiful review, it conveys the idea well. I really hope to find the album somewhere; it seems impossible to find....

I'm not very prepared about the Styx... go ahead! Thank you for the compliments.

Fair enough the assessment and consideration of the band's creative decline. Too much metal. They've lost their identity. The recording quality is, among other things, mediocre, with a guitar-bass blend that is often indistinguishable (but couldn't there be a bit more investment in sound quality?). The keyboards and guitar solos have completely disappeared: but why???
There are also some great tracks like "Ceiling unlimited," "Vapor trail," "Freeze," "Earthshine," but, although I have always followed and respected the various evolutions of their sound, that's enough! I WANT THE RUSH OF OLD BACK!!

Take the chorus of Pretty Vacant, it could have been written by Gary Glitter a few years earlier... well, anyway, let's not split hairs, as Kojak used to say.........

I remember that mix, wasn't it between Pink Floyd and Alan Parsons Project?
