Really a nice album. Two elements at play. Discontinuity in the structure of the trio: Ballard's presence is very much felt, but at the same time, Mehldau's lyricism remains in many tracks. Continuity in musical references: beyond the mentioned Beatles, there are Nick Drake ("Day is done," you should have mentioned it!) and Radiohead ("Knives out"). I really liked the deframmentation of "50 ways to leave your lover" by Paul Simon, at times unrecognizable (in a pleasant way). Bye

A challenging album, not immediately digestible, but in the long run it rewards the "efforts". I liked it, especially Sanchez's contribution, but I think we may have already discussed it. One curiosity: the current structure of the group, a small melting pot of nationalities from Switzerland, the Americas, and Vietnam.
