-Russian occupation (1807-1917), creation of the Grand Duchy of Finland with the capital Turku until 1821, then Helsinki. The Grand Duchy of Finland was governed by a grand duke and a senate appointed by the Tsar.

I almost forgot, in addition to the official languages Finnish and Swedish, Finland has a regional language, Sami (or Lappish), spoken in the northern part of the country by 0.03% of the population (about 5,200 people). The municipalities of Inari, Sodankylä, and Utsjoki are bilingual in Sami and Finnish.
