Lucio Dalla Lucio

I also think that "Caruso" was fatal for Dalla, even though he had already been on a downward spiral for a few years. However, that was the "jump in quality" (in reverse): a horrific mishmash of operatic aria and song. Not only that, but in addition to ruining Dalla forever, it triggered indecent operations like the Zucchero-Pavarotti duets, Pavarotti-Bono, Bocelli, etc., true hybrids, horrific mutants between opera and pop song, two territories that should absolutely remain well separated. Unfortunately, the masses have fallen for it, and all these monsters I've mentioned have also been sales monsters. P.S. I'm still waiting for a visit from my beloved Masini.

Fossati and Ramazzotti? Did I read that right? Yes, I read it right, so why not compare Paolo Conte to Pupo (Gelato al limone, Gelato al cioccolato)? All the same, all a blob where the most wretched trash ends up along with those four or five real musicians we have in Italy. But Piergiorgio is of course joking, it's clear.

Late comment, much like my discovery of Gianmaria Testa, after a few decades of passionate listening to Paolo Conte, to whom critics often liken him. I actually find a bit of Fossati here and there as well, but that’s another beloved artist of mine. However, aside from the unavoidable references to others, I find a completely personal style and a simplicity of orchestration that, as you rightly said, is "disarming," and is yet another demonstration that, when there are valid ideas, it doesn’t matter how much noise you make; you can enchant with little more than an acoustic guitar. The fact that the French appreciate him much more than we do, as is also the case with Paolo Conte, speaks exclusively to their merit, and it doesn’t reflect well on us.

I don’t know the album in question in its entirety, but only some tracks that are in the collection I reviewed back then. I agree with the path taken by fabbiu and also by Airone. Often, it’s the journey we all go through: when we’re young, we’re impressed by the grandeur of certain rock bands (in my case, very progressive and not so metal), then we move on to more essential and simple sounds (and Donovan fits perfectly, but Cat Stevens is also great in this regard). Generally, the next step is classical music, which is an almost infinite world to explore, full of delightful surprises. Excellent review.

At this point, within your program of reviews on Italian musical trash, I expect any moment now a pulp-horror-splatter etc. review of my dear compatriot Marco Masini, whom, as you can imagine, I adore madly, even more than Gigi the camorrista, because besides making the records we know, he further has the fault of ruining the name of Florence all over Italy (beyond Chiasso, I don't believe it reaches). I hope that one day you can pay him a visit, preferably without blowing up the whole city...

At this point, all we can do is hope that Punisher finally decides to move from words to action. Then there will be the problem of clogged landfills, but just to know that elements like this sentimental and fawning mobster are no longer among us, we are willing to endure a bit of stink.

All of this is true, but it's also very obvious.

To define it as the lowest point of ELP is truly absurd, especially since I've never noticed significant fluctuations in their quality, always excellent from a technical standpoint and just above average in terms of composition. Even in this case, where ideas are lacking, Ginastera and a traditional British church choir make up for it. If the suite "Karn-Evil 9" had a human duration (instead of half an hour), this could be their masterpiece, not at all the lowest point.

With Punisher, one risks being repetitive: it’s true that he often shoots at the Red Cross, but he does it so well... Eros Ramazzotti is a poor fool with defective vocal cords, entirely inadequate for singing, perhaps even for speaking. He was taken straight from a slum and transformed into a world-class star (in terms of sales, that is) to show the whole world that with a relentless advertising campaign one can impose anything, even nothing.

The beauty of this review is that it has a serious tone, as if it's talking about music, while instead it's discussing mobster behavior, sycophancy, and the unbearable arrogance of power, all conveyed with a polite (but not overly so) irony.
