Overrated, even if it’s still in its good phase. Probably the last good thing produced by Luciano (or at least decent), even though "Certe notti," to be completely honest, really annoyed the hell out of me.

Overrated. To call Ligabue's music rock is like saying that the Mona Lisa was painted by Pollok.
  • Ditta
    10 may 20
Well, yes, these are stereotypes. Ligabue, Vasco, and Nannini do rock... and at this point, I would add: Morandi does hard rock, Minghi does trash metal, and Pupo does prog.

But are we kidding? Is this really the same band that released albums like "Desaparecido," "17 re," or "Litfiba 3" in the eighties? One of the biggest travesties in the history of WORLD music; something that makes "Mondi sommersi" from two years before look like a masterpiece. Disgraceful!

  • Ditta
    23 may 20
Indeed, "Regina di cuori" was outrageously abominable.. "Ritmo" (both versions) was very commercial, "In fondo alla boccia" was embarrassing (it feels like a botched post-binge operation), "L'esercito delle forchette" (!) even worse, while "Imparerò", "Si può" and "Apri le tue porte" are a bit too simplistic for my taste.

Litfiba: Spirito
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The latest album by Litfiba that is worth a listen. It strays quite a bit from their best masterpieces, but overall it manages to earn respect. Tracks like "Animale di zona," "Tammùria," "No frontiere," and "Ora d'aria" are worth a listen on their own.
Litfiba: Terremoto
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
After the misstep "El diablo," here comes the masterpiece: a beautiful album, undoubtedly the best of the tetralogy of the elements, with standout tracks like "Maudit," "Fata Morgana," and "Prima guardia." The score would be 4.5, but I'm not ashamed to give it that extra half point.
Litfiba: El Diablo

Aside from the title track, "Proibito" and "Il volo," it doesn't seem like an exceptional album as I remembered. It will get slightly better with the next two, then goodbye Litfiba.

"Spirit" is still one of the good ones (gems like "Animale di zona," "No frontiere," "Tammùria," "Ora d'aria," etc...), but with "Mondi sommersi" a crash will occur. With "Infinito" we hit rock bottom, and with "Elettromacumba" we even started to DIG.

As far as I'm concerned, the best Battisti was yet to come... but this is still a great album. The lyrics of the title track may be the best thing produced by Mogol. 4.5
Lucio Battisti: Il Mio Canto Libero
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
The best Battisti of the early period... an unforgettable album.
Lucio Battisti: Anima Latina
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
I've never been particularly fond of Battisti, but this album is absolutely fantastic. It's his absolute peak (it competes with "Don Giovanni"), simply wonderful. The highlights are "Abbracciala, abbracciali, abbracciati," the title track, and "Macchina del tempo." A great album, one that deserves to be among the top 15-20 albums of Italian music.

Agreed on everything, except ...if he plays with "Don Giovanni."
Lucio Battisti: Una Donna per Amico
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Personally, I find this album enormously overrated. Technically perfect, but at the same time too cold, lacking in emotions and heart. Albums like "Anima latina" or "Il nostro caro angelo" devour it with their hands tied, not to mention the Pannellian albums. A 3.5 that I round up to 4. Let the insults commence.
  • Martello
    27 may 20
Yes, sometimes it’s a bit chilly. However, in certain cases, it's really great (like "Prendila così" or "Perchè no"). This is the deal, take it or leave it.
Lucio Battisti: Don Giovanni
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
A fantastic debut for Battisti/Pannella. The peak of the quintet 86-94 (it competes with "C.S.A.R."), and additionally, it features what is, in my opinion, the most beautiful song of all the bianconi: the title track.
  • Martello
    18 may 20
Did it need to be said that it’s the pinnacle of the whites together with CSAR? Did it need to be mentioned that the title track is the best of the 40 recorded with Panella's lyrics? Someone had to say it sooner or later.
Lucio Battisti: La Sposa Occidentale

The most beautiful of the white records after "Don Giovanni."
  • Martello
    5 may 20
For me, this is the best of the whites. I don't deny that all white albums have their own form of originality, from the strange mystical blend of orchestrations and electronics in Don Giovanni, the dance philosophy in Hegel, and finally CSAR. This album is as unique in Battisti's discography as it is in the entire Italian music scene: among cryptic lyrics that I like to see connected together to form a sort of concept and arrangements that span techno, rap, dance, rock, and pop that Battisti has never experimented with and will never experiment with at these levels.
Lucio Battisti: Hegel
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The most challenging of the white albums, yet at the same time one of the most successful. However, it’s not quite a five-star yet, but it’s close.
  • Martello
    11 may 20
Well, it has its flaws, but like other white people, it's wonderful. The only downside I can find is only Stanze come questa, perhaps the most experimental song from the Panella period.

Lucio Dalla: Automobili
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
I fully agree. The pinnacle of the Dalla-Roversi collaboration. An absolute masterpiece, just below the next three.
  • Martello
    5 may 20
I might be the one who's wrong, but for me Lucio Dalla and Dalla are not masterpieces. I consider both to be excellent albums, but when I think of Com'è profondo il mare and Automobili, I see a tiny step back. I hope you don't take it the wrong way.
  • Ditta
    5 may 20
For me, the entire triad of 77-80 is an absolute masterpiece, and I consider it slightly superior to the Roversi triad (especially the beautiful homonymous one from '79, which is the one I'm most attached to). But tastes are subjective.
  • Martello
    5 may 20
I have to say Lucio Dalla is a truly wonderful album, I don't think I'll be able to hold back from going crazy while listening to L'ultima luna. However, in my opinion, it’s not a masterpiece (mainly due to forgettable tracks like La signora or Tango).
  • Mauro82
    5 may 20
As far as I'm concerned, the albums from '77 and '79 are on par with this one. The '80 album, on the other hand, is slightly inferior (though it still remains a masterpiece in my opinion).
  • Martello
    5 may 20
I consider it better than 1983 but also worse than Cambio, for example. Gems like Balla balla ballerino, Siamo dei, Futura are unquestionable, but compared to others, it has some moments that are a bit flabby (actually, I think only Mambo isn't exceptional; it's basically Stella di mare with different music).
  • Ditta
    5 may 20
Oh my God... saying "Dalla" is worse than "Cambio" seems excessive... "Cambio" had wonderful gems but also some heavy misses (I slightly prefer the next one, which is still inferior to the album from '80). But tastes are not up for debate.
  • Martello
    5 may 20
Indeed, Cambio is slightly better than Dalla; in fact, I would put them almost on the same level. I consider both of them to be great albums, with wonderful gems and some parts that are not so well developed (2009 in Cambio, Mambo in Dalla).
  • Ditta
    5 may 20
For me, "2009" is one of the most successful :) (just like "Mambo"). I would honestly give the 90s album a 6.8. The next one gets a 7. As for the 80s album, it deserves no less than a 9.5.
  • Martello
    5 may 20
If I really have to say, I would give Cambio a 7.7, which I would round up to 8 for kindness, and I would also give Dalla a 7.7 or a little more. Since you mentioned Henna, I can’t give Henna less than 8.5; for me, it’s the best album by Dalla since '85.
  • Ditta
    5 may 20
"for me it’s the best album by Dalla since '85" indeed it is. Let’s say that, if taken individually, I would also give it an 8.5/9. Compared to the rest of his discography, 7. "Cambio" the same.
  • Martello
    5 may 20
Personally, when I evaluate an album, I try not to consider the artist's discography; otherwise, the judgment would be heavily influenced by what the artist has done before, leading to a comparison between albums that can be both useful and useless. Take, for example, Bugie by Dalla: let's imagine it as the only album Dalla ever released. If considered in isolation, it sounds like an average album from the 80s, with sprinkles of a plastic pop that barely make it sufficient. However, if you think of it as a Dalla album, the same artist who has produced fantastic albums, you can't accept it, and therefore the rating will be even lower (yes, I’ve also gone through this reasoning for Bugie, which I would honestly rate a 5.5).
  • Ditta
    5 may 20
"Personally, when I evaluate an album, I try not to consider the artist's discography, otherwise the judgment would be heavily influenced by what the artist has done before" that’s how it should be. Let’s take, for example, "Venditti e segreti" by Antonello Venditti (I don’t know if you know him).
Let’s pretend it was made by Claudio Baglioni. If it were made by him, an album like that would be pure gold. But compared to what Antonello has done before, it gets a simple 6.5.
Of course, I respect your opinion. I think differently, but I respect your view, no doubt about it.
  • Martello
    5 may 20
I'm reminded of millions of albums where it would be interesting to make this comparison: Hot Space by Queen, Terremoto by Litfiba, E già by Battisti, Rimini by De Andrè, Resta vile maschio dove vai by Rino Gaetano, etc. Let's try to imagine that E già was recorded by Sfera Ebbasta and was released last autumn: critics and the public would probably be skinning their fingers to say it’s wonderful and it’s considered Battisti's worst album.
  • Eneathedevil
    7 may 20
Ah! I have read things that have delighted me and things that have saddened me (I'll just quote one: "Tango episodio trascurabile"... a criminal phrase when I think of all the times I am moved when I hear the beautiful ending with Morena, who, beautiful and kissed by the sun, happily plays her violin), but I’ll get right to the point about the subject, which is nothing more than the judgment on this controversial album by Dalla. You praise it, and rightly so, but I don’t consider it the best of the Roversi trilogy. The reason lies in its incompleteness: this album is a fragmented version of what it was supposed to be in the intentions of the two Bolognese, with two pieces that were cut by RCA for being deemed "heterogeneous" and the order of the remaining six tracks completely overturned. Perhaps I'm influenced by my knowledge of this subtext, but I have a vivid sense of incompleteness when I listen to it. Simply put, the duration is short, and the number of tracks is sparse: every time I finish listening, it feels like I'm left high and dry, waiting for a logical and sequential conclusion. Therefore, I prefer a more cohesive work that sticks to its intentions, like Anidride Solforosa from the year before, and I certainly wonder what this album would have been if RCA hadn't disrupted the process and had returned it to us in its entirety: perhaps at that point it would rightly have been the best of the triad and one of the undisputed peaks of Bolognese music.

Hey, don't miss the chance to look up, if you haven't already, on the Tube some of the tracks that were part of the initial project carried out by Dalla-Roversi and then not recorded on albums like "I muri del ventuno" and the beautiful "La signora di Bologna."
  • Martello
    7 may 20
To be a ragged album, I consider it a masterpiece. Then I also add I muri del ventuno, currently the only unreleased track I've been able to listen to. I'm intrigued; I will listen to the others.
Lucio Dalla: Il Giorno Aveva Cinque Teste
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Of the Roversiana triad, "Automobili" is the most beautiful, but this one is also marvelous. Perhaps a bit "difficult," but absolutely worth getting to know. Rating 4.5 for excess.
  • Martello
    7 may 20
At first, I didn't understand this album, then I got into it and found it good, but I can't give it more than a 7.5. It has some very particular tracks, but songs like Passato e presente and Pezzo zero really spoil the atmosphere. I'm sorry, especially since it contains one of Dalla's most beautiful songs, namely L'operaio Gerolamo.
  • Eneathedevil
    7 may 20
I know I’m the third wheel when you two are getting cozy, but "Passato, presente," although quite uneven, is a pretty nice piece in my opinion. "Pezzo zero" is just filler, sure. And let me mention, more than the Worker Gerolamo, one of the peaks of Roversian lyricism that I believe is "La bambina." It also has an instrumental ending that gives you goosebumps.
  • Martello
    7 may 20
Indeed, La bambina is wonderful, but L'operaio Gerolamo is at an exceptionally high level for me. Even though there are other remarkable pieces, such as Grippaggio, Il coyote, or L'auto targata TO.

Lucio Dalla: Viaggi Organizzati
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The album that marks, at least for me, the end of Lucio's golden era. This and the previous "1983" are two perfect dividing lines between the "old" Dalla (71-81) and the "new" Dalla (86-09). Malavasi, starting from this point onward, will increasingly operate in the electronic realm, bringing a refined tecno-pop that is in step with the times but not always palatable to everyone and, to be honest, it doesn’t sweep me off my feet either. I still remain firmly attached to Dalla 71-81, but even this one remains an excellent album. Lyrics that are still fully Dalla's, with standouts like "Toro," "Aquila," "Washington," and the title track. Between 4 and 4.5.
  • Martello
    26 jun 20
I'm getting tired of saying that for me this is Dalla's masterpiece. But it's also understandable that someone who is attached to Lucio from the 70s might find this album inferior to the previous ones. That Dalla shaped at least three decades of generations. Unfortunately, I was born in a musically chaotic era, where radical changes would occur in that sector. Singer-songwriters were giving way to rappers in the mainstream. All this to say that what Dalla did in the 70s is not bad and has aged wonderfully, but albums like Viaggi organizzati are closer to future generations than people think, even at the expense of the quality of the work itself.
  • Eneathedevil
    26 jun 20
To me, it really bothers @Martello, so I confirm that this album "does not overwhelm me." And I’ll add: on a debaserian scale, it’s worth a little over 3 out of 5 (as if to say it’s simply a decent album).
  • Martello

@[Eneathedevil] naaah, 3/5 seems low! 3/5 goes to "Bugie," "Cambio," and "Henna," records that aren't exceptional but leave scattered gems here and there. Here, arrangements aside, there are several perfect pieces. Copy and paste for "1983" (even if the latter still had more "singer-songwriter" arrangements, so to speak).
  • Eneathedevil
    26 jun 20
Well, it’s like wanting to give a 6.5: to me, it’s worth as much. On a scale from 1 to 5, that means 3.25, which I have to round down.
  • Martello
    26 jun 20
I place 1983 on the same level as Cambio circa. Brilliantly arranged, of course, but some of the lyrics are hard for me to digest. I find Pecorella and Noi come voi, for example, quite clichéd, as well as Solo. However, there are gems, starting with the title track and going all the way to L'altra parte del mondo. Let's say it's almost a 4-star album.
  • Eneathedevil
    26 jun 20
Then I must say that this album is overshadowed by the unfortunate judgment on the title track. I first heard it in the live version from Dallamericaruso, only to discover the original on the album I bought a while later: in the live version, it was much more energetic, less "yawning" than in its studio counterpart, with an outro that curiously echoed the theme of Com'è profondo il mare. Of course, I was influenced by the order of my listens, but damn, if Dalla had proposed that version on the album, then everything would have taken a different turn, in my view.
  • Ditta
    26 jun 20
They are two albums quite different from each other, but in the end, I think they are worth the same. I would give them a 7.5. "Cambio" and "Henna" a 6.5 (maybe give "Henna" a 7 for kindness), "Bugie" a 6/6.5. After "Henna," there will be "Canzoni" (score 5.5 just for a couple of decent tracks), then "Ciao," "Luna matana," "Lucio," "Il contrario di me," which are worth no more than 2.5/3, and finally "Angoli nel cielo," which deserves a stretched 6.5.

@[Alemarcon] I don't completely agree, for me Dalla managed to stay at a good level until '93 (even though his golden period ends in '84), the same goes for Daniele (his in '85, with "Ferryboat"). Vecchioni will take some hits after '84, but in '93 with "Blumùn" he will manage to bounce back completely, releasing several excellent albums and a masterpiece ("Il cielo capovolto," '95).
For me, Venditti's golden era ends in '82 with "Sotto la pioggia," although he manages to maintain a decent level until "In questo mondo di ladri." The same applies to Bennato, whose golden era ended in '83 ("È arrivato un bastimento"), but he holds on until '87 ("OK Italia"). Graziani has always managed to stay at a decent level (it's true that after his self-titled album from '83 he declined a bit, but he remains consistently adequate). I haven't followed Finardi after "Dal blu," so I couldn't tell you.

Great live performance, excellent executions. And "Caruso," although a bit overrated, is a beautiful song.

Caruso overrated? The most beautiful Italian song of all time overrated??
Ahahahah, my dear, drugs are harmful...

Are you kidding me? It's a beautiful song, but Dalla wrote at least another 15-20 songs, both before and after, that people easily tuck away (off the top of my head: "La casa in riva al mare," "Il motore del 2000," "Nuvolari," "Come è profondo il mare," "Quale allegria," "Anna e Marco," "L'ultima luna," "La sera dei miracoli," "Cara," "Futura," "1983," "Le rondini," and I probably forgot a few more).
But us Italians are like that; we love Lucio Dalla for "Caruso," De Gregori for "La donna cannone," De André for "La canzone di Marinella," Venditti for "Notte prima degli esami," Battiato for "La cura," Pino Daniele for "Quando," etc., etc... it's just how it is.

On those pieces by Dalla, I still completely disagree. They’re nice, yes, but under Caruso. Among the artists you mentioned, I only agree on Pino and Faber (who indeed wrote better things than those pieces). The others, absolutely not. Come on, are you seriously telling me that Notte prima degli esami, La cura, La donna cannone are overrated?????? Let’s not say silly things, come on...
  • Ditta
    29 apr 20
"Notte prima degli esami" is less than the others (I consider it a masterpiece), but it is. Venditti has written "Sora Rosa," "Le cose della vita," "Le tue mani su di me," "Campo de' fiori," "L'amore non ha padroni," "Compagno di scuola," "Lo stambecco ferito," "Canzone per Seveso," "Sotto il segno dei pesci," "Bomba o non bomba," "Giulia," "Modena," "Eleonora," "Qui"... all pieces that are superior to "Notte...".
"La donna cannone," also wonderful, is absurdly overrated. De Gregori has written "Le strade di lei," "Saigon," "Bene," "Giorno di pioggia," "Pezzi di vetro," "Le storie di ieri," "Pablo," "Bufalo Bill," "Disastro aereo...," "Generale," "Canta canta," "La storia," "A pà," "Mimì sarà," "Cose," "Un guanto," "Il cuoco di Salò" (and I've definitely forgotten something), all pieces that put "La donna cannone" in its place.
Battiato likewise: he has done better things (all "Fetus" and "Pollution," "Stranizza d'amuri," "Up patriots..," "Radio Varsavia," "Veni l'autunnu," "Fisiognomica," "I giardini della preesistenza," etc., etc.).
You think that way, I don't agree but I respect your tastes.
Lucio Dalla: Henna

For me too, the last listenable album by Dalla. It also manages to be slightly better than the previous "Cambio," a bit more inspired, and it particularly benefits from the absence of the chart-friendly track (the various "Attenti al lupo," "Canzone," "Ciao," and so on). 3.5
Lucio Dalla: Cambio
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Overall, a good album, although it is still far from his masterpieces. Aside from "Attenti al lupo" (which, for being a simple pop song, isn't bad at all), there are excellent tracks, including "2009 (Le cicale e le stelle)," "Apriti cuore," "Bella," "Comunista," but especially "Le rondini," which absolutely deserves to be among his best works. 3.5
Lucio Dalla: Bugie
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Unfortunately, we are at the beginning of the decline here. Some shadow of the giant Dalla still exists, and overall it's not a terrible album, but the inspiration is greatly reduced. Furthermore, the most famous single (of course "Se io fossi un angelo") turns out to be the least successful. 5.5/6
Lucio Dalla: Ciao
CD Audio I have it ★
Re-listened today on CD. Nothing, for me it remains (along with "Il contrario di me" from 2007) the ugliest and least inspired album of Lucio, without a doubt. I hope his soul doesn't take offense, but I really can't find anything, not even a little decent passage... stuff that makes "Canzoni" from '96 look like a masterpiece in comparison.

Oh God, there were some passages, there was a desire to convey a message. Lucio and Il contrario di me, on the other hand, had nothing to say, getting a bit too lost among megalomanias and blue fairies that caress clams.

Well... I only remember the single, "Ciao," indeed! After the hit "Canzone," a bit of a flop.

It's a piece with a hidden message behind a silly-looking aesthetic. This is, without ifs, without buts, without #maybes, without whys, without almost buts.

The cover is the Best! Essentially a Greatest Hits, there isn't a misplaced track. For purely "sentimental" reasons, Dalla'80 is my favorite. I remember as a child, Lucio singing "Futura" on Discoring... a small man with a microphone in hand, who "sings" a piece in playback!
Lucio Dalla: Q-Disc

Great album, perhaps underrated due to the immense commercial success of the '77-'80 trilogy. However, one must not forget that it contains a gem: "Telefonami tra vent'anni." But the other three tracks on the album are also quite good, including the cover of "You've Got a Friend" by Carole King.

Lucio Dalla: Com'è profondo il mare
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Lucio's first singer-songwriter album, and the first of a (wonderful) trilogy. Simply extraordinary, all of Lucio Dalla's genius shines through here: lyrics, music, arrangements... simply perfect. The title track deserves to be among the 10/15 most beautiful Italian songs of all time, not to mention "Quale allegria." A masterpiece. 9.5

It's also nice that in the finale, with the rhyme hand-far, it manages not to come off as trivial. Indeed, it often touches the heart.
Truly terrifying... probably the lowest point of the entire career. Things like "INRI", "Rimini", or "Due dita sotto il cielo" are worthy of spontaneous combustion... at least there was "Malinconia d'ottobre", quite nice. Average 1.5

OH-MY-GOD. It's worse than that shit from Lucio (2003), it's worse than Canzoni, the apotheosis of all the crap that Dalla was pushing on the market since '96.
Lucio Dalla: Dalla
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
Simply a masterpiece: the final piece of the wonderful singer-songwriter trilogy 77-80, it has absolutely nothing to envy from the previous ones. "La sera dei miracoli," "Cara," and "Futura" among the best Italian songs of all time. Rating 9.5

Del Dalla “deterior” is one of the less bad, but it’s definitely not worth more than 2 balls.
Lucio Dalla: Dalla-Morandi

Here it was already on the decline, although still appreciable. If it hadn't been for Morandi (I can’t stand his voice and his way of singing), I would have easily given it a solid 4.

Lucio Dalla: 1983

I instead go against the tide and say that I have always loved this album, although I consider it inferior to the previous ones. Let's say that it's from here that a slightly less sharp period begins, but still of great quality, and it will last until the next album. Title-track, "L'altra parte del mondo" and "Camion" are the most successful pieces. 4 solid stars.
  • Martello
    14 apr 20
I don't think it's a throwaway album, but I wouldn't give it four stars either. The next one will definitely be better. Even though there are at least two or three exceptional tracks here (the title track is worthy of the best from the author, at least in my opinion).
Lucio Dalla: Canzoni
Vinile I have it ★★
The beginning of the end for Lucio. I would save the beautiful "Ayrton," the second version of "Disperato erotico stomp," and a bit of "Tu non mi basti mai." The rest? Somewhere between disappointing and embarrassing. Almost 2.5.
