An elegant epitaph, with two pearls at the beginning: Come Together is one of Lennon’s best tracks. Harrison, in great form, presents two of the best songs of the bunch.

Yes, I agree. I have the entire discography, even though they've never blown me away; this one is their best for me. How's it going with the Sunday records, pana? Have you listened to them all by now?

Mingus and Passion are missing (though I already knew about the latter). We'll see what happens with Joni ;)

I have Mingus too, very beautiful but with Joni it's hard to go wrong. Liege & Lief is fabulous, a spot-on purchase... Enjoy listening then, regards!

I have no doubts about Mingus. Hi!

My favorites remain "Magical Mystery Tour" (which, in my opinion, wipes the floor with Sgt. Pepper, a view that has made many think I'm crazy...) and especially the White Album. This one has never driven me too crazy, even though it contains great songs like "I Want You (She's so Heavy)," "Because," and "Something."
  • pana
    27 nov 14
Absolutely agree on the Magical Mystery Tour; it's their best album for me too. Then Pepe, then this, and after that, I don't think it's worth buying them, in my opinion. From the White Album, I save Revolution 9, Helter Skelter, The Story of Bungalow Bill, and especially While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Too little for me.
  • SilasLang
    27 nov 14
Oh, you don’t like the white album?? I mean, 'Dear Prudence', 'Glass Onion', 'Warm Gun', 'I'm So Tired', 'Yer Blues', 'Mother Nature's Son', 'Sexy Sadie', 'Long Long Long', 'Cry Baby Cry'... for me it was and still is the BEST. Even the nonsense fits in there. It’s really a lo-fi record ahahah. Well, for the rest, we agree my dear.
  • madcat
    28 nov 14
Well, yes, the white album is their absolute best, but for me, starting from Rubber Soul, they all deserve to be bought. And I also add Help! and A Hard Day's Night when it comes to the turning point.

The Beatles: Revolver
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
The time for the Beatles' most bizarre and "daring" moments hasn't arrived yet, but Revolver contains some of their best songs: Taxman, Eleanor Rigby, I'm Only Sleeping, Good Day Sunshine, For No One.
The Beatles: The Magical Mistery Tour
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Practically a masterpiece. Extraordinary the "soundtrack" part with six monoliths, each better than the last, remarkably underrated. Add to that a Hello Goodbye, a Strawberry Fields Forever, and a Penny Lane to complete the whole thing, and you’re done.
For me, if it weren't for the subsequent one, it would be the masterpiece of the Beatles. With A Little Help From A Friend, Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds, She's Leaving Home, Being For The Benefit Of Mister Kite, Within You Without You, A Day In The Life are gems of immense beauty.
  • hellraiser
    2 dec 14
Undoubtedly an important, historic album. For me, however, it represents a mystery; it doesn't drive me wild and I find the only great track to be the closing A Day in the Life. I've always found it very overrated, but I'm talking about my personal tastes—I love psychedelia but I think there are other masterpieces in the genre, it's a matter of taste, in short.
  • tonysoprano

I also consider it overrated, but it remains a masterpiece nonetheless.
The Clash: Give 'Em Enough Rope
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Criminally underrated, a masterpiece on par with the previous one and slightly below the subsequent ones.
The Clash: Sandinista
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
A work that is initially very difficult to assimilate, both in terms of duration and genres. However, most of the tracks are simply beautiful: If music could talk above all.
The Clash: London Calling
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
What an earthquake! The English quartet ridicules the Sex Pistols by offering a punk that isn’t really punk, given the immense influx of genres like rock, reggae, and ska. Title Track, Guns Of Brixton, The Card Cheat are my favorites, but each of the eighteen tracks is a spectacle. Chapeau.

I agree with you. However, in the end, I'll also tell you that this is not the album by Jesus and Mary Chain that I prefer and that my bloody valentine have never driven me crazy. It's a matter of taste, of course, and I share the view that the genre is not exactly the same.

The Magnetic Fields: 69 love songs
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Generally, when I listen to it, I convince myself that no album could be as beautiful. Then, yes, it ends and I realize I've exaggerated; it's a sentimental, crowd-pleasing record and all that. But in my opinion, it's a masterpiece, one of those big ones; my favorite pop album at the moment, although "pop" is quite reductive in reality.
  • fuggitivo
    28 jul 15
Never listened to everything, my favorites were almost all on the first CD. But if I had to choose a favorite moment, it would be the intro of Epitaph for My Heart. For me, in terms of pop music, "Daddy's Highway" (The Bats) beats everything, give it a listen if you want.

I loved "Distortion" a lot. I could never finish it. Undoubtedly, it’s a meticulously crafted pop work with a great deal of effort behind it... in the arrangements. But I personally find it heavy... and too sugary. Too pompous. Compared to Stephin Merritt, though.

For me, the Palme d'Or goes to Papa Was A Rodeo, which in a way is the alter-ego of Busby Berkeley Dreams from the second album ;)
The Mothers Of Invention: Freak Out!
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
More dada than psychedelic. Cute finds and gags in the first part, which I don't find that innovative (maybe I should know the texts). Extraordinary the second side, more avant-garde.
The Mothers of Invention: Absolutely Free
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Absolutely brilliant but a bit immature for me; the best of Zappa will come later, imho.
The Mothers Of Invention: Uncle Meat

In my opinion, the best album by Frank Zappa perfectly sits between the dada/psychedelic masterpieces and the more rock/fusion ones. King Kong is eternal.

I should be somewhere between devastated and pissed off, but considering there are people throwing 1, 2, and 3 at this album, maybe claiming that "they were already over" (I swear, this really happened), it doesn’t affect me as much. But I don’t agree, also because S.Ray represents the pure essence of the VU, it’s probably their definitive track (even though it’s not my absolute favorite).
  • ranofornace
    14 jun 13
Great record jh... "Ray Sister" is an absolute masterpiece, a ragged noise orgy distinctly branded VU, which was represented live each time in a different way and length. Cale is the "devil's knight, croaking on his viola, on the black gallows, to the sound of a sad pastoral:::". For me, here, they meet my wonderfully "cursed" tastes. No one can take away those five big balls.
Enough Heroin. But there is more than just Heroin.

Incredible how much I’ve reassessed this album that I adored years ago. Yes, there are some good parts here and there...but I find it too pompous and polished to be a Who album. I now appreciate them mostly only up to Who's Next (which I've also slightly reassessed downwards), and I give this one a stretched pass.

Sooner or later you have to listen to "Big Time." Now I’ll stop bothering you.
