A magnificent example of eclecticism, technical awareness, and compositional quality. A fantastic album for a truly intelligent band, which has taken pop up a notch and also a bit further.

If this is our answer to world music, well... it's a bit lacking... okay, the lineup is impressive: Phil Manzanera, Jon Hassell, Paolo Fresu, Dave Gregory (XTC), Jan Maidman (Penguin Café Orchestra), Peter Hammill (Van Der Graaf). But the result is really just a long lullaby without backbone, low in sodium and even heavy in the lyrics. Maybe I'm wrong, but this album is truly overrated...

    It's a bit like saying if you don't get it, it's not your fault! Maybe you're right, huh? Maybe I'm the one who didn’t understand... I'll study harder! But I'd rather understand better and explore other albums in the same genre, rather than suffer through the catacomb lamentations of this album again...

    only animal gray is worth entire discographies. then I can understand that it might not be to everyone's liking. then our response to world music is: Crueza de ma by de André and Abacada by Andrea Parodi.

    I'm perfectly in agreement about "su creuza de ma." It's the ultimate masterpiece that we've brought out in Italy. "Abacada" is a gap for me; I haven't listened to it, but I will for sure. As for "il sole nella pioggia," I'm not saying that everything is trash, but the inspiration is definitely lacking in many parts, and the convoluted production doesn't fully cover certain gaps. Overall, especially considering the names involved, it seems more like a missed opportunity than the hit that even poor hjhhjij expects when reading the cast. Dear hjhhjij, you who can, save yourself!! I'm joking, of course; I have the utmost respect—it's a subjective matter!

Wonderful work, among the greatest of the nineteenth century. All 9 symphonies by Bruckner are a spectacular compendium of quality, depth, and intensity...beyond words!

If I can recommend it, this is a masterpiece, at least in terms of production and arrangements (magnificent), as well as being a collection of good/excellent songs.
An album of beautiful, meticulously crafted modern soul.

beautiful lyrics, very much so, but the music... to say the least repetitive... 10 out of 14 tracks start with harmonica + guitar and then the same melody as the others kicks in... oh well... back in 1966 there were much prettier things in my opinion. an extra point for a handful of memorable songs (4 or 5) that set a high standard in songwriting.

    In my opinion, musically, it’s not memorable. Especially the arrangements are not very well-crafted, and some pieces aren’t really as innovative as one might believe. After all, I want you, just like a woman, absolutely sweet marie, one of us must know do not stray from the typical 3-minute love songs of the '60s, regardless of what anyone says—three chords, a not transcendent melody (more or less always the same, perhaps due to Dylan's not very versatile voice?). Meanwhile, absolutely grand are Visions of Johanna, Sad Eyed Lady, most likely you go your way, and others; I'll stop here.

Untitled 3, a beautiful 21-minute beetle solo... I am Esterre (but I am not) I can't really appreciate it: harmful even in the periauricular area, I can even perceive areas of my brain damaged by the buzzing inflicted on me nonchalantly by this combo of sonic terrorists. So many wasted tapes!

One day in 1984, my uncle Alfredo, getting into a quarrel with his wife, knocked over a stack of freshly dried and arranged pots. The clatter and the shouts that followed (which I sadly did not have the presence of mind to record) anticipated by two years the innovations introduced by this album. Epoch-making yet derivative.

    Cptgaio says that "Trout Mask Replica" is a haphazardly played album and then appreciates Einstürzende; you consider TMR a masterpiece but say that this album is made with random noises. I say, Solomon-like, that you are the ones commenting at random.

    No, I don't consider Trout a masterpiece... and when I said that, body of a thousand whales?? Last week I reviewed SGT. Peppers hiding it inside The Mascara's snake... fast'n' boulbus! For me, Trout is a 4-star album because I quite like it... but this one I don’t like at all! :P With affection for everyone, I propose a big ecumenical hug, in the style of John Paul II.

Paco always stands out (he shares the name of my dear deceased Indian starling who called me by name), and not just because he has the same name as my former starling. A phantasmagoric trio, dizzying (even in the less flattering sense of the term). The dizziness: when it pleasantly intoxicates you, when it makes you nauseous and there’s no guarantee of safety from headaches, which will pass with sleep anyway. Truly a wonderful sensation.
