Funky disco, high-quality soul funk. Applause for the vocalist.

Unfortunately, I have reassessed them quite a bit (downwards), especially this one. It pains me to say it, but I find it embarrassing in many parts. What a shame, just a few years ago they were my listening companions for entire afternoons!

Well, as far as I'm concerned, I hope I don't end up like Darth Aignan :D
  • Can I ask why?..

a lot is due to the fact that I can hardly stand the sounds and arrangements of prog anymore, not to mention that kind of prog with lyrics about wizards, knights, and other random nonsense... like this album, for instance. Furthermore, you can add that the recording quality is truly scandalous, and this is a fact, not an opinion. Which, of course, might not even have been their fault, but if I'm listening to punk or garage it's one thing (actually, I listen to those genres precisely because they are intentionally poorly recorded)… but if I have to listen to prog that’s also recorded in a terrible way, for me it's a big NO. Lastly, I have to say that they are still very rough here, even in their compositions; some passages almost make me feel pity. For what it’s worth, I can still handle a bit of Darwin and appreciate "Io sono nato libero" (I think that's what it's called).

This was a great record. When Beck was a totally laid-back and stoned 20-something 'slacker' recording with a busted guitar with 4 strings, a Bontempi organ, and a 4-track tape recorder. Too bad it won't last much longer...

Same here, madcat. In fact, if I really have to say it, my favorite of all was that chaos of 'Stereopathetic Soulmanure', which came out roughly around the same time as this...but independently.

Strummer, after COMBAT ROCK, distances himself from the Clash, first Topper Headon and then Mick Jones. The latter forms Big Audio Dynamite. Their sound incorporated funk, dance, rap, reggae, and punk samples. In their 1986 album, Strummer co-writes some tracks with Jones.
Well-crafted psychedelic work.

de marga my dear, I haven’t had time for a joint review that we will definitely do... this weekend was quite a mess and I’m basically just coming back now after a fleeting return home late last night. As soon as I find a moment, I’ll get it ready :-) About the album, well...

@Silas: no problem, buddy. By the way, I saw that Point Blank has already been reviewed; although calling that a review with those three lines seems like a stretch: one more reason to make it right…24 Hour Bullshit!!!

I read an interview where he himself defines as a "non-musician." If you tell me he wasn't one yet here, I trust you.

Sure, I associate that definition with works like the first "Ambient."

For me, a masterpiece. 5 stars is even too few. I recently discovered this one, when my love for albums like 'Here Come The Warm Jets', 'Taking Tiger Mountain', and 'Another Green World' had already become annual...
