One of the coolest funk records I've ever listened to. It oozes drugs and sickness from every groove. Black as tar. Sly's swan song.

No psychedelic trips, just tons of cocaine. One of those cases where drugs have taken over creativity. Salute to the last 40 years of Sly, out of reality but also out of the game.

In fact, there’s really nothing psychedelic about this. More psychotic, I would say, ahahah… “Stand!” was psychedelic. Great album too, but totally different mood…

besides being psychotic, it is the photograph of the end of a utopia, of a dream gone to shit. Cocaine has always played its part with Sly (just like with his dear friend Bobby Womack, how else would he manage to record two colossal albums like Communication and Understanding in less than six months?), but surely here the control was, fortunately, still total, otherwise how would we have had such a masterpiece? He will lose himself later, Silvestro, and unfortunately for us, he will never be found again...

...but how was "Fresh"? I don't own it and I must have listened to it a couple of times on loan over 15 years ago, and I remember it didn't impress me at all. But since back then I still hadn't fully immersed myself in the Family Stone and old Funk in general, maybe I should give it another listen...who knows.

I would say that maybe it would be a good idea to have them give "Fresh" a spin or two. In there, you can find practically all the best of Prince and also the non-metallic Red Hot Chili Peppers (which, by coincidence, covered If You Want Me to Stay...). The latest Sly is essential for me (even if some defend Small Talk as well).

Sometimes a song is played so many times that it can become "hateful." The most famous tracks by Nirvana and the Rolling Stones come to mind, but there are others... You know, there are songs and artists that are terrible and even get "awarded," while Jessica, in my humble opinion, remains a decent track in comparison. Certainly not outstanding...
