After the excellent debuts, the beginning of the golden age for the Stones. A divine record, the first one truly "theirs" in their unique style, and with a wildly unleashed Brian Jones.

The '80s were anything but bland. Between post-punk, new wave, the hardcore scene, the dawn of alternative rock, etc., there was plenty to get excited about! It's a bit like today; you had to dig deep. I was just a kid back then, I hated rock because I associated it with the prog hairdos of the previous decade (thanks, Dad!) and even worse, with the hair-metal crap that was contemporary at the time, so I turned to synthpop :-) Anyway, I was never crazy about The Smiths.

I imagine the definition should include a NOT before "talking," otherwise it’s a contradiction :) ...and, in my completely personal opinion, the 80s were so NOT disappointing that for me The Smiths (among the most noteworthy bands) were among the least interesting.

Ultra-eclectic masterpiece by Waits (but the next 3 are also outstanding, "Frankie Wild's Years" being the best album post-"Swordfishtrombones") that deserves the highest rating, in my opinion...

I remember it a little... the single, in my opinion, was horrible, though.
  • genevincent
    3 dec 14
Yes, I should have understood... that single was often heard, it was annoying and not that great, but the rest of the album is decent. Then you know, living in Brazil for a while I "fell" into it...

The only album by U2 that I can tolerate. And something from the 'Achtung/Zooropa' era. As for the rest, I could never stand them. Not even 'The Unforgettable Fire', 'Joshua Tree'... they irritated me back then too.

Peter Hammill was called the Jimi Hendrix of the voice, while Dave Jackson was referred to as the Van Gogh of the sax. Excellent music... masterful. But come on, I’ll adjust my aim and give the highest marks.

Better :) I love to nitpick about this album; after all, it's one of my all-time favorites. Wasn't it Buckley who was described more or less that way ("he did with his voice what Hendrix did with the electric guitar")? Details, Hammill is up there in Olympus right next to Tim.
  • bluesboy94
    21 oct 14
Lee Underwood (Buckley's guitarist) said that Buckley did with his voice what Hendrix did with the electric guitar; the same thing Robert Fripp (who collaborated numerous times with Hammill) says about Hammill...

    Well done bluesboy94...
A lot of inspiration, although in my opinion, PAWN HEARTS is better... After quite some time, I listened to them again just yesterday.
  • hjhhjij
    22 oct 14
Well, yes, Pawn Hearts is better, if we want to include H to He, but at these levels "better" practically doesn't exist. At least for me, at least with them :)
  • SydBarrett96
    22 oct 14
Here are "After the Flood" and "Darkness", but above all there is "Refugees". You cannot put 4.
  • hjhhjij
    22 oct 14
Alright, he gave a 4 to a bunch of albums, that's his grading method. The score is just a little game; what's important is that he enjoys it. Oh, you forgot "White Hammer," you can't forget that one, Syd.

Correct observation... Artistically, Gano's band was born first...
