Could this be the absolute best album by the Stones?
  • 2000
    27 mar 16
    also yes
  • genevincent
    27 mar 16
Even if it’s a tactical response that can say a lot but also nothing.
  • 2000
    27 mar 16
In theory, I wouldn't even know how to choose my favorite from the Stones; this could fit perfectly in my hypothetical top 3.
  • genevincent
    27 mar 16
Indeed, it's not easy... anyway, I approve of your top 3. Thank you and best wishes!!!
  • fuggitivo
    27 mar 16
The best can only be found between 1968 and '72. Even just for the face-smashing explosion of Rocks Off/Rip This Joint, I would vote for Exile, or Sticky, over Beggars at 3rd.
  • luludia
    27 mar 16
I am undecided between this and "let it bleed"...
  • luludia
    27 mar 16
Actually, sorry, I was eating goose... despite the unmistakable cover I thought you were talking about beggar's.... so the best is beggar's on even days and let it bleed on odd ones...
  • fuggitivo
    27 mar 16
"Honky Tonk Women/You Can't Always Get What You Want" the perfection made single.
  • j&r
    28 mar 16
The Stones are good, but the second act of Götterdämmerung is better.
  • 2000
    28 mar 16
but what does that have to do with it?
  • j&r
    28 mar 16
...but how come you don't know that in Sticky Fingers the Stones have woven numerous musical references to the themes of Götterdämmerung...for example, in "Bitch" there is a clear and blatant citation of Hagen's theme...also, there are numerous references to Wagnerian poems...there is a constant evocation of Scandinavian and Nordic Nibelungic mythology and pantheism, as well as the Aristotelian and metatheatrical union of the Antichrist par excellence.
  • fuggitivo
    28 mar 16
I don't think it was intentional.
  • j&r
    28 mar 16
Oh indeed... Richards was a great enthusiast and scholar of European classical music... he was able to perfectly play for hours and hours the Well-Tempered Clavier or Bach's Goldberg Variations... he also used to listen to Mozart, Beethoven and was indeed an avid consumer of Wagner's works... in the same album there is also a song called Moonlight Mile, if I'm not mistaken, which contains highly cultured philosophical references to Sigmund Freud, of whom Jagger was a great admirer... the Stones are much more refined than their demeanor might suggest... we are talking about the Stones... that is, some of the greatest geniuses of the last century... we are not talking about Black Sabbath or some other band of empty heads.
  • j&r
    28 mar 16
...and here I have spoken "only" of the purely artistic content...thus I am neglecting their importance at the level of cultural phenomena...in this field, the significance of the Stones is nothing short of titanic as they have shaken, transformed, and revolutionized the way of thinking of Western society as a whole...their impact on cultural phenomena is incalculable...it transcends eras, generations, and oceans...
  • j&r
    28 mar 16
They are studied in universities...thank you goodbye

I knew something, but not in such a thorough and detailed way. Thank you, j&r!!
  • Hank Monk
    29 mar 16
J&r...unfortunately, I’m not a great historian of the Stones, but...aren’t you pulling our leg :D?
  • 2000
    29 mar 16
Boo. If you're serious, thanks for the insight :D
  • hjhhjij
    29 mar 16
Bored trolling, come on you could do better J&R.
  • j&r
    29 mar 16
...and I’ll tell you more...Siegfried never died...when Hagen cowardly stabs him in the back, he pretends to die...he will hide in the Black Forest for 2000 years only to reappear in London in 1960 under the false name of Richards Keith...and his sword Nuthung transformed into that guitar with which he "forged" epic riffs.
  • j&r
    29 mar 16
...anyway, the only nonsense of everything yesterday was that about Wagner...Richards has always been a great enthusiast of Bach, just as Jagger is of Freud...
  • fuggitivo
    30 mar 16
I fell for it only because I don’t listen to classical music. Classical music is for queers.
  • Hank Monk
    30 mar 16
"he was able to play the Well-Tempered Clavier or Bach's Goldberg Variations perfectly for hours and hours"

let's say this also stinks a bit
  • j&r
    30 mar 16
    No...not that one...
  • j&r
    30 mar 16
"Wagner from queers" are two incompatible concepts... it's like saying Italians are serious people...
  • fuggitivo
    30 mar 16
I am a serious person. And I am also Italian. And classical is for sissies.
  • fuggitivo
    30 mar 16
Snobs like you keep classical music away from the people; if today’s 16-year-olds listen to Led Zeppelin instead of Wagner, it’s also your fault. Imagine how great it would be, a world of 16-year-old queers.
  • j&r
    30 mar 16
I consider myself much more German than Italian in terms of temperament, way of thinking, and character... I am ashamed of the average Italian as I am far above, culturally speaking, that person... anyway, I don’t even feel like I’m gay since I am attracted to female breasts and the vagina... regarding the idea that I would be "to blame" for the fact that 16-year-olds don't listen to classical music, I can't say yes or no since I am 30 years old and I haven't been around 16-year-olds for a long time... let's say it's been about 14 years, if math isn't just an opinion...
  • j&r
    30 mar 16
Ah, I don't understand why I would be snobbish... because I have culture... it's not a crime to be a well of knowledge... ha ha ha
  • fuggitivo
    30 mar 16
Why do you put classical music above other genres? This intimidates those who approach classical music.
  • fuggitivo
    30 mar 16
"I don't even feel like being gay since I'm attracted to female breasts and the vagina" come on, I'll stop here. As revenge, it’s more than generous. No one trolls the boss.
  • Hank Monk

The Rolling Stones: It's Only Rock'n'Roll
CD Audio I have it ★★★★
Not up to par with some albums between 1966 and 1972, but over the years I've re-evaluated it.
Produced by The Glimmer Twins (Jagger-Richards).

"Not on par with some albums between 1966 and 1972" Not on par with ALL the albums between '66 and '72. Still, post-Exile is the one I like the most.
  • Lao Tze

I've never liked 'Time Waits For No One' much, for me it's one of the few downsides of this album. Then there will be a general softening, except for that bit of roughness brought by Ronnie Wood in Some Girls and the live performance from the end of '70, still at very high levels.

Terrible oversight on my part... of ALL the albums between '66 and '72. Thank you.

After the excellent debuts, the beginning of the golden age for the Stones. A divine record, the first one truly "theirs" in their unique style, and with a wildly unleashed Brian Jones.

The '80s were anything but bland. Between post-punk, new wave, the hardcore scene, the dawn of alternative rock, etc., there was plenty to get excited about! It's a bit like today; you had to dig deep. I was just a kid back then, I hated rock because I associated it with the prog hairdos of the previous decade (thanks, Dad!) and even worse, with the hair-metal crap that was contemporary at the time, so I turned to synthpop :-) Anyway, I was never crazy about The Smiths.
  • darth agnan

I imagine the definition should include a NOT before "talking," otherwise it’s a contradiction :) ...and, in my completely personal opinion, the 80s were so NOT disappointing that for me The Smiths (among the most noteworthy bands) were among the least interesting.
