Cows: Daddy Has a Tail!
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
Shit, depravity, and chaos in power. The second job of the cows, the most rotten and true essence of Rn'R. Ugly, filthy, and high. Noise Rock at its dirtiest and most putrid, and therefore, the best.
Crystal Stilts: In Love With Oblivion
CD Audio I have it ★★★
Dischello cute cute, enjoyable enjoyable that seems to have come out about forty years ago, between Velvetian influences [on "Prometeus at Large" one almost expects to hear Reed's voice] and garage influences but all quite melodic and at times vaguely psychedelic. 3.5

Damon & Naomi: Damon & Naomi With Ghost
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
The two former Galaxie 500 kick off the new millennium with one of the most beautiful albums of the decade that was just about to begin, accompanied not by just any band, but by the colossal shamans of Japanese psychedelia, Ghost. A blend of dreamy folk rock, progressive electroacoustic weavings, and lysergic bursts. A must-have.

They are a good group, the records I've heard were nice, I have "False Beats and....", I don't remember the title, always with the Ghost in the studio and it's not bad. On the other hand, the Luna by Dean Wareham don't say anything to me. This is great.

Das Damen: Triskaidekaphobe
Vinile I have it ★★★★
Great work by this semi-unknown band to most. Released in '88 under Greg Ginn's SST, it's a sort of cross between something reminiscent of Dinosaur Jr and a certain psychedelia straddling the '60s and '70s. Too bad the rest of their discography won't live up to this raw gem. Well, now I can go out and get drunk...

For me too, Rano. This is absolutely my favorite by Bowie. I literally adore it. Hank, what can I say? It's a matter of taste :D But until Scary Monsters (which I'm not crazy about), Bowie is almost like a pig, nothing goes to waste... the trouble will start right after, unfortunately...
  • Hank Monk
    19 jun 13
Yes, after Scary Monster there's a bit of fluff, but then he came out with Outside and Earthling with the ever-mourned Trent from the golden days (oh, he's still cool anyway). The fact remains that in my opinion, Bowie is a magnified reflection of his collaborators of the moment, whom he always chose with great class.
  • SilasLang

Yeah, Outside was really a great album! Earthlings was decent... a bit messy, in my opinion. I don’t know, all those Dn'B insertions sometimes seemed a bit forced to me.
Dead Meadow: Howls From the Hills
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
Heavy, liquid wave of acid riffs and slowed-down cadences that at times brush against certain doom ('One And Old')... when Dead Meadow were a band with real balls. The last one made me cry, in a bad way... but that's another story.

dEUS: Worst Case Scenario
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
Classic band that burst onto the scene with one of the coolest albums in history, but in my opinion, they never managed to follow it up with anything equally valid. A milestone of twisted rock and jazzy sounds from the '90s, alongside "Yes" by Morphine and "Ruby Vroom" by Soul Coughing. After that, not much else...

Disco Inferno: DI Go Pop
CD Audio I have it ★★★★★
A record so crazy and uncategorizable today, imagine at the time of its release in '94. When it was still rare to dare to use labels like post-rock/math-core/post-hc and various nonsense. A masterpiece... an important record at least as significant as 'Spiderland'...

Incredible album. For this record, the term post-rock truly makes sense; they’ve created a flying disc, an unidentifiable sonic object. Post-rock really has meaning with "DI Go Pop," even if it wasn’t as cool as mentioning "Spiderland."

The perfect soundtrack of a slow agony from overdose where everything gradually becomes slower and heavier (the first two tracks) until the total cessation of all vital functions (the last exhausting half-hour OM, where nothing moves anymore). This album could last even 20 years, once you reach the last track. I might be crazy, but I love it. Long before this sound became "cult."

I miss this album by the Germans; I remember their concert that I saw in Cascina, in the province of Pisa, in 1993 for the Tabula Rasa tour. A great job. Then the stagnation of this sound made me allergic to this band and others, all so similar to each other, but this one was still very valid. Chapa..
In past geological eras, it was one of those records returned to the used store in less than 24 hours. With all due respect. When I still bought CDs for the cover. I hadn't connected the band's name to More Than Words; otherwise, I would probably have opted for a best of Peppino Di Capri to give to my parents.

Ahahahahahah. I was still a work in progress at that time, evidently ahahah. After all, you’re right, covers of terrible taste, a good legacy of late '80s Metal Lacca. I was tricked by the cover of this one that, as much as it was aesthetically unpleasing, tried to be less cheesy, at least in their minds. These guys contributed to only one cause, not artistic, but to the expansion of the ozone hole. More Than Words...brrr. Well, to each their own. Pietas.
  • Great album. Dry, much less commercial than the previous ones, Nuno is a wonderful musician with an exhilarating rhythmic mastery. The sound landscape is minimalist; you can hear everything because there are very few instruments. It's a somewhat forgettable but extremely enjoyable album. The funk-tinged rock of the Extreme is here in its most sincere and least contrived version. In fact, it was not successful. What has never convinced me is the singer Cherone, gritty and determined but without great talents. And there's no trace of things like "More Than Words," which is indeed quite annoying not for itself (a one-off, after all) but for the excessive success and the branding that has stamped their entire music, clouding even the minds of some who can't help but mention it inappropriately to flatten their whole career.
I've always considered this their best work. I already loved them a lot, but when King For a Day came out, it was the final blow for me.

No, I don't know! "A guy who talks" did remind me of that delirious masterpiece "Tarot" by Walter Wegmuller, which among the Krautrock from the '70s is one of my favorite LPs along with this one by Faust, some stuff by Can, "Samtvogel" by Gunter Shickert, and some other things... Another totally forgotten band (even by me) that emerged from nowhere at the dawn of the '90s, and very soon disappeared again. I dusted off (quite literally) this album yesterday, after years and years of it sitting under one of the many piles of CDs I have at home. Flowerhead played a sort of psychedelic grunge, nothing groundbreaking, but at the time it was very enjoyable. Another one of those many one-hit wonder bands from that era, along with countless others. Decent.

The first album by F.S.A., still lost amid thick shoegaze fogs of feedback and distortions, distant voices, and heroin-like atmospheres. Beautiful, to say the least. When it came out and I listened to it, I was pleasantly surprised by this little disc. Damn, who would have thought that the drumming beaver had this unsuspected talent for crafting 12 highly enjoyable songs that mix heavily saturated guitars with beautiful pop melodies? Okay, nothing new, I told myself, thinking of Bob Mould's Sugar, but damn it, these are really beautiful songs! When the second one came out, I realized I had made a mistake. Today, I’m sure I was terribly wrong!
Franco Battiato: Pollution
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
Some say he's a genius, others a fool. The truth, as often happens, lies somewhere in between. Personally, I’m not crazy about the national-popular Battiato. But this, in my opinion, is his best period. And this is his best album, in addition to being one of my all-time favorite Italic records, damn it! A skewed masterpiece of acoustic/para-electronic/progessive pop and homemade...zzzz
  • ranofornace
    5 jul 13
The best Battiato without a doubt, one of the most original and interesting ital-prog works in the entire '70s scene, rich in ideas and very personal inventions. The period of post-experimental prog, as we know, is too self-referential and characterized by an insistent search for self-proclaimed cultural statements, with the pretension of creating a new aristocratic-snob language, commercially suited for pseudo-intellectual niches.
  • Psychopathia

Nice album, but sometimes I find it a bit silly... I prefer Fetus and the strings of Aries... unfortunately, I don't have any other of Battiato's experimental work.

Well then... in the period in between Aries and The White Boar, there’s the almost unlistenable... tell me who could have listened to Egypt before the sands from beginning to end... I mean, everyone there saw some genius in it, but as a brilliant idea, it had very little; there are those who dared more and even before - THERE Battiato, like never before, at the height of self-referentiality. But even M.elle Le Gladiator, especially the first facade, doesn’t joke around...
  • hjhhjij

    6 jul 13
LaoTze, I have listened to Egypt Before The Sands from start to finish more than once, and I didn't even have to force myself to enjoy it. I find it very relaxing; I compare this type of listening to Eno's ambient records—you don't have to concentrate too much, it's more suited for semi-distracted listening. Pollution isn't bad but a bit heavy; Areknames, for instance, is fantastic live, but on the record, I think it overdid it with arrangements, additions, and fancy frills.

Until "Clic" everything is beautiful. Then it descends into the ridiculous... Has anyone listened to a "track" like "Za"???

But if I had to take only one album of theirs with me, "Nursery Cryme" would be the chosen one. Sentimental reasons, "Nursery" accompanied me throughout '71, it was one of those magical years!

come on, 5 for life, let’s not joke around, also because giving a 5 IS being objective... ;-)

The Genesis: one of the few bands we don't agree on :D

A very unique album: Victorian lyrics that in the future Gabriel won't create anymore except for something in the Lamb (the Lamia and Colony), more rock in my opinion than the two that will follow, an amazing albeit brief solo by Hackett that closes Fountain and thus the whole album. 5 for life.

Hj what do you want me to do? I'm a Punk inside... too many refinements I abhor! Rn'R must keep that rough, animalistic, instinctive, and sickly quality to win me over. Otherwise, I'll put on Franz Liszt...

P.S. Baroque styles give me hives. But this is a great album. I also don't mind something from The Lamb..

Indeed, this is a track that appeals to (almost) all non-Genesis admirers, and in spite of that, you've made me crave Genesis again haha :)

Yeah! Maybe because it's still a pretty "direct" and dry record, compared to, say, "Selling England"... Anyway, yes! Talking about Genesis made me want to put on another Genesis album... In fact, now I'm going to blast Throbbing Gristle, alright.

This, Foxtrot, and especially Selling England are fantastic, Musical Box stands out, among the best works of the '70s.
Ghost: Lama Rabi Rabi
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
One of the greatest bands from the Land of the Rising Sun. This is their masterpiece in my opinion. A delirious trip lasting an hour where east and west copulate frantically high on DMT. A long and psychedelic mystical ritual, dancing together with the spirits of the forests.

"Hypnotic Underworld" is also very beautiful, and the one with Damon & Naomi is good too... then I don't know! They keep releasing albums one after another.

Disk of another reality, frightening, for large stretches it has little to do even with rock... the first piece is the soundtrack of a Central Asian caravan...

"The first track is the soundtrack of a Central Asian caravan" very evocative as a description. BIG UP!

how evocative the whole album is, after all. If it also happens to be the first one you hear from Ghost, it more or less has the effect of a bolt of lightning.

Yes, it was the first. Found, I don't know how, among the used ones in a little shop that usually only has junk. I didn't even remember having it on the list, I didn’t even know the cover; if I had paused for a moment less, I would have lost it. The best for me are the last two, psychedelic gems of rare beauty and among my all-time favorites.

Grateful Dead: Anthem Of The Sun
Vinile I have it ★★★★★
Every now and then a bit of psychoactive mold doesn’t hurt. The best Dead shows were seen live, amidst an acid trip and a cathartic dance (the true precursors of illegal raves), but their second album remains a masterpiece. Expansive and psychedelic, here they also flirted with classical and concrete music, thanks to the entry of that genius Tom Constanten into the combo. The best era of the Dead. Then they left the Moon, Pigpen passed away, and they became a ridiculous souvenir band for old hippies.
