    Judas Priest? Black Sabbath?
You included Pantera but not Exhorder (Pantera is basically the bad copy), Slipknot? D:
Dream Theater at the top is unacceptable, Death under Metallica, all the power is missing, Manowar are missing, basically, a terrible ranking.

I wrote at the top of the chart that it was based on my personal tastes, so it's understandable that you might like bands that I didn't include. I basically don't listen to Power (with a few exceptions); it seems too repetitive to me: the usual double bass rides in 4/4. As for Manowar, no way! I won't give them to you... they think they're the lords of metal, but I have my doubts!
Regarding Judas Priest and Black Sabbath, I agree with you; I could have included them in the chart, but these bands have been more influential. Peace.

Yeah, whatever, Dream Theater suck, they're trying to copy the style of the '70s and end up with hyper-technical stuff that's boring (and this is coming from someone who mainly listens to Progressive).

It's alright progjoe, you should know that here on debaser, clichés are built upon clichés. The excesses of Dream Theater came over time, but their first three albums were original and significant for the evolution of metal. Then it's true that after losing Kevin Moore (essential), they also lost their balance and tipped over into showiness.

I mainly listen to prog, but I've also absorbed a lot of metal (especially in the past) and I have to say that seeing Death so low and DT in first place makes my balls drop. As for Slipknot... steaming pile of shit.

In reality, the biggest absence here is Fates Warning...

@fedezan76 it's nice to find someone who agrees with me! The early albums are amazing, even though the latest works are a bit too redundant and self-celebratory.
As for Fates Warning, I can tell you that I got their albums, but I haven't listened to them with the attention they deserve yet. Mea Culpa.
@dlf I really like the early Slipknot, and I added them because I started listening to them and then moved on to "proper metal," although I think this categorization between true metal and nu metal is just a load of crap!

Well, progjoe, and don't underestimate the Savatage either (Dead Winter Dead, Streets, Edge of Thorns, and Handful of Rain).

@felo: "basically the Pantera are the bad copy" (of Exhorder), let’s not say bullshit :) @progjoe: "As for Judas Priest and Black Sabbath, I agree with you, I could have ranked them, but these bands have been more influential" you shouldn't say bullshit either :)

Noooo! Don't say "true metal"! You're reminding me of Manowar... I care about my heterosexuality.

fedezan76 for Savatage, the same applies as for Fates Warning, I just need time!

Fedezan is the prophet of prog-metal, trust me. I don’t put my seal on it because the genre sits a bit heavy with me. Teenage, I love Pantera but it’s truly too precise a coincidence that the four Texans changed their musical genre right after the release of "Slaughter in the Vatican". Not a bad copy but definitely skilled scribes.

@dlf: I am the prophet of music. (frame: sunglasses, arms crossed over the chest, gaze slightly tilted and directed towards the horizon). @progjoe: shadow gallery, angra (holy land), royal hunt (moving target, paradox), Saviour Machine (Saviour Machine I).

As for the famous Pantera/Exhorder story: I take and make my own a comment found on Deb's only review of Slaughter in the Vatican: "Exhorder are to Pantera what Motörhead are to Metallica"... I hope I conveyed the idea.

teenagelobotomy, "the Exorder are to Pantera what Motorhead are to Metallica" yeah, right.

As for Prog Metal, Crimson Glory and Ayreon should come before Dream Theater.
