    On His Majesty's podium, I would have said Gong and Soft Machine, as long as the order is not random. It's all good anyway.

    The ranking is excellent. Taking out the Pink Floyd who are not progressive, removing Zappa who can be considered a pioneer (and therefore doesn't fall within the genre), and placing King Crimson at the very top.

    And maybe turning down the Genesis a bit, which is kind of annoying.. :)

    Stefano, thank you for the excellent. However, allow me to tell you that you are young, too young to say that Genesis are full of shit, clearly referring to the Gabriel era Genesis. Pink Floyd invented everything and also a good chunk of progressive. Zappa is everything, so he's also progressive. Damn right he is!

    The Genesis are still swinging even if I’m young... I’ve heard a lot of music, maybe less than you, but well... you know... The Pink Floyd didn’t invent anything (except maybe psychedelia) just like no one invented anything... You’re right about Zappa, he’s everything. But maybe when I say prog I mean something else (he’s more about jazz...) oh well, it’s unclassifiable, you’re right.

    ..in a ranking of progressive music, King Crimson and Soft Machine should be first and second..then Pink Floyd, Zappa, Gentle Giant..the rest, in my opinion, are crap bands...missing the Can..

    there's no need for any point of view, Zappa is absolutely the most progressive of all, one could almost say that the term was coined for minds like his.
