Probabilmente il "genere" con più basso livello qualitativo medio nella storia della musica.
Gli unici a non essersi sputtanati
Sputtanati dopo i primi tre album

Well, I’d say I agree :) What about some SoaD and Sepultura/Soulfly?

The Snot album is worth much more than all those you've listed below together.

I would say yes, but for me the first Korn and White Pony surpass it.

Well, the fact is that the Snot, just like the System, are very "tight" in nu metal... There's still a lot of other good stuff, especially Disturbed and Coal Chamber. The first three albums by Deftones are classics, just like the first two by Korn.

The term nu metal is definitely generic; just think about how unlikely it is to expect to group together, for example, the self-titled album by Deftones and the first one by Soulfly. I haven't heard Coal Chamber in ages, and the same goes for Disturbed.

I don't know, to me the Coal Chamber, from what I've heard, sounded too much like Korn... Disturbed I don't really like that much, I find them a bit too polished, they tire me out in the long run. As for the rest, each genre is very varied within itself; after all, just look at genres like prog or grunge which in turn have very different bands inside them. In fact, rather than genre, it would be better to talk about "scenes" like prog, nu metal, etc. Anyway, there are common elements, starting from those space-time ones, passing through influences, style, musical goals...

Ah, but does anyone here know the Pods? I've heard good things about them, but I've never listened to anything.

  • I've never been able to stand the P.O.D.s for their tendency, which irritates me a bit, to insert God everywhere.

The Coal remind me of the early Korn, they are very intense, and the singer will later found Devildriver where he honestly unleashes his extremism. Disturbed doesn't say much to me either; nu metal is a specific crossover and Disturbed doesn't "cross" enough stuff. Jvd666 thinks that a friend of mine, upon hearing their debut, described the Bizkit as the happier version of Korn... I've always been curious about POD because it's strange for someone to talk about God in rock and metal, but when I heard a song on Rock TV, it truly disgusted me... I'll try listening to them again; a review might just come out ;) Another highly-rated name, although more in the industrial realm, is Static X. Can you recommend something of theirs?

My friend is a die-hard fan of static x; I’ve never listened to them, but the best ones should be the first two.

I had heard that the POD were Christians, but honestly, I don’t really care as long as the music is good. On the other hand, I find that in the end, all the death-black bands are just as ridiculous when they fall into the opposite direction. I shouldn’t listen to a ton of stuff if I paid too much attention to the lyrics! Or to all those bands that say fuck the system, etc., and then produce under majors and are millionaires :)

  • Yes, I agree jdv, but when it's too much, it's too much, and the good vibes from the pods really get on my nerves. Plus, they play like crap. Monarch by Static-X, I recommend Wisconsin Deathtrip. It's a pure shot of nitro industrial nu-metal.

Well, I can't really say because I've never heard them... in fact, being overly nice is one of the things that annoys me the most :P anyway, would you put white zombie under that? By the way, if anyone knows them, I’ve also heard good things about taproot, mudvayne, glassjaw, and puya (but I’ve never really explored them either because I was generally skeptical about the genre); what do you think about them?

Oh, and I almost forgot, the Rammstein? In the end, if Static X is on, they can join too, right? I think Mutter deserves it!

  • Mutter is the diddio album, I love Rammstein. White Zombie... not really, but something primeval like that... then we’ll see... Taproot... I have two albums... the sound system is worth it but overall it’s a bit boring... Mudvayne for the first two albums were something out of this world, mixing Slipknot, Tool, and progressive turns with primal screams and a beautiful voice was something for bulls, then they decided it was better to suck, I flush Puya down the toilet with el Nino and finally only love for Glassjaw (the good singer from that band appears in my latest review).

  • I recommend these discs: Mudvayne: L.D.50; Taproot: Gift; Glassjaw: Worship and Tribute.

Allow me to break a lance in favor of the P.O.D. They don't make songs with religious messages for convenience, to sell more, or to appear more "cool"; in fact, among those commenting on this chart, they are musically less known. It would have been more profitable for them to wear masks, write seemingly satanic lyrics, and ride the wave of conformity. Instead, they may be cloying, but at least they believe in what they do. Musically, they might even be poor. Humanly, they are better than RATM who act like barricaderos and then gather for a few live dates when they see their solo projects have flopped. The same goes for System Of A Down. At this point, long live the sincerity of that bro Fred Durst. Tomorrow I'll read up on Static-X, as well as White Zombie.

  • On that, nothing to say Monarch, but overall, I just can't stand them. RATM is released on Sony and this is now a well-worn topic. They can do whatever the hell they want, you’ll find very few honest people there. I comment on the fact that they are musically out of this world :) Fred Durst, however, has also tried to be a socialite, you know.

  • Or a closer example to RATM, Mike Muir himself had raised the same criticism mentioned above, except that his Suicidal Tendencies were signed to Epic, which is coincidentally a Sony partner.

@the monarch: I mostly agree, as you may have read in a comment a bit earlier. After all, if someone is a believer, I have nothing against it as long as it doesn’t turn into fanaticism or moralism/naïveté. However, I can’t judge them since I’ve never read a text. But from what I know, for example, one of their fathers was a petty thief/drug dealer who managed to make a life for himself after discovering Christianity, and I have a feeling that they also come from difficult backgrounds, so in the end, at least I believe they are sincere.

@trattore: I read (by the way, nice cover :)); come on, I'll note down the names you mentioned.

  • Even Max Cavalera is a fervent believer, yet he doesn't bother me at all; in the songs he has written over the years, there’s no forced goodness, he hasn’t written a piece like "ABORTION IS MURDER" as our dear P.O.D. have done...

At this point, I would say let's touch base once we've listened to some groups that came up in this discussion kindly offered by the good workhouse, thanks for the hospitality under your ranking! PS Mustaine is also a believer, and the last two Megadeth albums are stellar; religion has made a positive impact this time!

PPS here’s the difference in attitude. Jonathan Davis focused on the pathetic and the extreme self-pity of himself and his childhood with his Korn - I don't think I need to recommend that masterpiece Daddy to you - while the Pods looked ahead with optimism.

  • and with the power of anti-abortion puritanism pro-Jesus :) everyone in their own way

p.o.d.: really not much, maybe because I listened to their latest release a couple of years ago, but there are riffs that anyone could write that drag on for whole minutes... While other good bands are Sevendust and Rival Schools. I also heard Prong, they’re not nu metal but they anticipated the genre quite a bit since the late 80s, and in my opinion, the more industrial-mechanical ones were inspired by them. And by one of the greatest riff creators of modern metal, Tommy Victor.

  • it's no coincidence that Mr. Alien Jourgensen called him to the court of the Ministry

aaaaah the ministry, nectar for my ears... The white zombie. Listen to the first two by white zombie, they're out of tune and out of their minds, the soundtrack of a satanic state of intoxication. But I don’t know if they can be considered nu metal.

The Ministry are awesome and Prong are great. Static-X and POD have never captivated me, just like Papa Roach. White Zombie were cool, and even Rob as a solo artist isn’t bad.
