American nu metal band formed in Bakersfield, California (1993). Widely credited as pioneers of nu metal; led by vocalist Jonathan Davis and known for autobiographical lyrics and heavy, groove-oriented sound.

Formed in 1993 in Bakersfield. Founding/longtime members include Jonathan Davis (vocals), James "Munky" Shaffer (guitar), Brian "Head" Welch (guitar, left and later rejoined at times), Reginald "Fieldy" Arvizu (bass); David Silveria was original drummer; Ray Luzier joined as drummer later. Recognized as influential pioneers of nu metal.
