Sinatra? Enough with these Italian-Americans with voices like olive oil (like Johnny Fontaine in "The Godfather")...

Janis Joplin -> Elvis Presley -> Michael Kiske. I’m framing this one.

  • Cornell

On the first... Well... Not really... The question is: why Staley 2nd?

Emotions, guys, emotions. The answer is right there, otherwise any decent opera singer would outshine all these folks. I’m not interested in technicalities; I care about what a voice conveys. I want to drink from the source of beautiful singing, I’m not trying to be a plumber.

And then enough with this dripping towards Mr. Mercury. I find his voice splendid, captivating, charismatic, powerful, versatile, and just imaginative enough. If I add that as a stage animal he gives me so much pleasure even just in video, I can only imagine the devastating effect he would have had live. Anyway, I would like to say one thing (and I’m not addressing Cornell, his is just a constructive criticism and that’s fair) to many debaseriani: you act so much like democratically open-minded people on this site and then three-quarters of the definitions about Freddie Mercury are based on pure homophobia. Think about it, people, think...

Freddie and Janis... I've lost count of the times they've brought tears of emotion to my eyes.
Also great is Elvis, one of the best performers of all time.

..and Tim Buckley?!.. the one who with his voice did what Hendrix did with the guitar and what Miles Davis did with the trumpet..

In addition to Buckley, also Stratos and Hammill. This is a ranking very rock'n roll/hard-rock oriented but it's nice (first place included ;)

We miss Campino from the legendary Die Toten Hosen.

Great ranking, Freddie reigns. Anyway, I would have included Demetrio Stratos, Hammil, and also that genius Peter Gabriel.

Freddie Mercury, for me, is truly untouchable: a phenomenon!

    I don't agree on a lot of subjects (mercury - presley - streisand - scott - udo - r.j. dio)...

Tim Buckley is cleaning the toilets in my house... I say this not because he’s a bad singer, quite the opposite, but because you’ve scratched your heads writing on any list of the most beautiful voices "what about tim buckley?", "what about demetrio stratos?". How LIMITED you are. This might surprise you, but sometimes technically very good voices don’t move everyone.

The same goes for Hamill. Great singer, who can argue that? But for me, he doesn't belong among the most beautiful voices.

Sorry, but what about Riccardo Benzoni? He has turned his voice into what Paolo Brosio did with dignity! You guys are limited.

We are just men with all our limits. But the Lord accepts us just as we are. May divine providence help us!!!
